POV: Lex
"Lex watch out!"
I hear before my body getting pulled away from the water.
It's Connor who seems to have saved my life.
If he hadn't pulled me back than I would have most likely been mermaid food.
"Dude" Asher says "you gotta stay focused"
"Yeah" Connor looks at me while he helps me stand up "what are you thinking about anyway?"
"His new boyfriend of course" Jayce says with the biggest grin on his face.
"Jayce go fuck yourself" I say annoyed. Not wanting the conversation to go this way.
Connor breaks the awkward silence by saying
"We do it today"
We all look at him confused.
"We kill him today, Devin"
I almost blow my cover by going into defense but I can't have that happen.
"Why?" I ask, as calm as possible.
Connor shakes his head as he prepares himself to start a discussion.
"You see, I know we all make jokes and all but we can't let this out of control"
"Yeah he is right." Foster and Asher nod. Not too surprising as they always follow into the footsteps of the one in control.
Connor signs as he keeps eye-contact with me.
"What would jerry have thought if he saw us like this"
"Weak" Jayce mumbles under his breath.
"Look, Jerry was an ass" Connor says carefully "but he was an example for all of us."
"What's the plan?" Foster asks. Avoiding eye contact with anyone besides Connor.
"So I was thinking"
Connor says as he sits down on a rock.
"Lex, I want you to ask him to be yours.
And when he says yes. We grab him and execute him. Having the betrayal be his final
Lesson, Like it's supposed to be."
That's barbaric. God. I can't show them how it makes me sick to my stomach to even think about it.
I nod as I don't pay attention to the rest of the conversation.
For once I really have no idea how I'm going to fix this.
I hadn't realized I zoned out until Asher gives me a stomp against my arm.
"Lex, you should be the most cheerful of all of us. It was your plan to begin with."
If I want to save Devin I can't let my guard now down. I have to keep the play up.
"Yeah yeah, I know. I'm just not completely satisfied with the plan"
Now all eyes are on me.
"Mind to explain?" Connor says trying to hide his annoyance but his voice betrays him.
I smile as I say "I want to do it publicly. Let it be a lesson for everyone. And hang him up in the middle of the camp."
It's stays quiet for a moment. Maybe they find it too risky.
But than Jayce nearly nails me down to ground by bumping into me excitedly. "That's an awesome idea" he yells as he puts his arm around my shoulder, showing his support in my idea.
"Alright" Connor says seriously "let's do it at dinner"
At the command of connors approval Asher and foster start to grin.
Connor gives me a proud nod while we walk as a group back to the camp
I find Devin chatting with Corbin.
All I have to do is give Devin a glance from a few meters away as he finishes his conversation follows me into the woods from a distance.
When I feel like we are far enough into the woods for people to not be able to see us I stand still and wait until Devin stands next to me.
"What did you do?" Is the first thing that comes out of Devin's mouth. He must have sensed the bad news from my facial expression.
I lean on the tree behind me as I explain what happened. Putting my face in my head in embarrassment.
Eventually devin breaks the silence by saying
"So you are killing me?"
"What no?!" I say shocked by his accusing.
"You are helping your friends killing me."
"I- I can't do anything to change this!" I say losing the little bit of hope I had left "I have no choice!"
Devin presses me down against the tree as yells "you always have a fucking choice!"
He roughly shakes his head, trying to stay calm as he says "you are just weak"
I'm at loss of words. I'm not surprised that he is mad but i didn't expect him to blow up like this.
I don't say anything back. He is right even if I'm afraid to admit it.
Devin walks away as I notice he is trying not to cry.
"Wait" I say as I grab his arm. He starts to tear up and I pull him into a hug as I whisper "I'm so sorry"
He gives in as I feel his body relax and he ends up crying on my shoulder. I can't help but tear up too.
I'm afraid of what's going to come.
"Lex"
"Yeah?" I say as I look into his watery eyes who look directly at me.
"Don't let me go"
I do as he says, my hands strangely attached to his as we stand in silence.
Neither of us finding the words to say.
Our hug seems endless before we decide to
walk back to the camp. Ready for the hell what is about to come.
