Rafe was always your best friend, your comfort person. The one person you trusted no matter what. You'd been friends with the Cameron siblings since you were basically fresh out of the womb, as your families have been friends for decades.

You were close with Sarah, but you were even closer to Rafe. The chemistry you two have has always been unmatched.

Your relationship with Rafe has been purely platonic, but you always found him attractive. Well, you and every other girl on Figure Eight. You never really thought he ever saw you as more than a friend, either.

Even with this mutual understanding the two of you had about your friendship, things have felt a little off lately. You couldn't quite put your finger on what has changed, but you both knew something was different.

Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of your ringtone.

Speaking of the devil...

"Meet me at our spot," Rafe's voice came through the speakers.

"Right now?" You asked him.

"Yes, right now," he answered.

"Okay, I'll be there in five," you told him before hanging up the phone.

"Mom, I'm going to meet Rafe!" You yelled up the stairs of the rather large beach house.

"Okay, be safe!" She yelled back, preoccupied by whatever it was she was doing up there.

As you stepped out the door, you were instantly met by the summer sun. Summer has always been your favorite season, especially here in the OBX. Everything just seems so alive and exciting, and you've made some of the best memories in the summer. Of course, most of them are with Rafe. You'll never forget all those times you two snuck out in the middle of the night to go to pool parties, walk on the beach, or to go to your favorite spot.

You decided not to take your car, as the spot you were meeting Rafe was a very short distance from your house, so you opted to take your bike.

You wondered if Rafe was already there as you parked your bike and made your way to the swings that overlooked the beach. This was the spot that you and Rafe so adored. It was peaceful, especially at night, and you'd been coming here together since you were kids. It was the place you could clear your head, blow off some steam, or simply get away from everyone.

It was almost funny seeing Rafe sitting on the small swing with his tall figure. Rafe was no one to mess with, and he was feared by many, but right now he seems almost childlike.

"Fancy seeing you here," you said as you came up from behind him to sit on the swing next to him.

Rafe let out a laugh before letting out a rhetorical remark, "Quite a coincidence, isn't it?"

"Is there any reason you had to meet me here right away?" You questioned the dirty blonde boy.

"Not really, I just wanted to see you," he answered, giving you a small smile as he looked over at you.

"Yeah, okay. What's the real reason?" You pried, not believing his answer.

"There's a party tonight and I want you to go with me," he revealed.

"Really? You could've just called and asked me that," you laughed, shaking your head.

"I know, but I wanted to ask you in person," he replied.
