PHOENIX'S POV
For the past week, dreams of Jane have haunted me. It's always the same one: I'm walking in the woods during what seems like early evening, just going about my business and enjoying the scenery. I see something out of the corner of my eye and all of a sudden Jane appears in front of me, carrying a knife, her black soulless eyes glinting evilly. She taunts me about being the object of Jeff's attention and says that now that she has me here it's the perfect opportunity to lure Jeff to his death. I tell her if she wants him she's gonna have to go through me, and we fight. Eventually Jeff shows up and she takes him one on one, and he gets knocked out in the process. Jane goes for a fatal blow just as I wake up, sometimes screaming for Jeff just so I can see that he's alright. I told Slender about my dreams, and he suggested that Jeff and I share my room from now on and Jeff, after hearing of my predicament from Slender, happily agreed, saying his priority is keeping me safe and he was going to ask Slender if we could share a room anyway. I also heard Slender had placed Toby, Masky and Hoodie on "Night Patrol Duty," meaning they take turns, well, patrolling the mansion's massive yard and the woods and report back to Slender if they see anything unusual. This is not just for my safety, but for the safety of the entire mansion. So far, nothing. I'm still scared, but Jeff is an enormous comfort. So is Clocky, even though I can tell she worries about Toby when he's out patrolling. I can understand that. Clocky and Toby are each other's rocks. They've been together as long as she can remember and she can't imagine her life without him, a feeling which is also heavily shared by Toby. It's hard not to miss the relief in her eyes when Toby walks through the door, or the emotion in Toby's voice when he takes her in his arms and tells her that he's all right. Whenever Jeff is with me to witness this, he holds me tight in his arms while repeatedly whispering "I love you," in my ear.
A few weeks after this arrangement started, Jeff and I were in the kitchen with Slender, cleaning up after dinner. Jane hadn't made an appearance, so Slender decided Toby, Masky and Hoodie could have a night off. Masky and Hoodie decided to go killing anyway, but Toby was home with Clocky, shut up in their room doing... Well, let me just say that there's a reason all the rooms are on the second floor. Slender doesn't sleep, so he never goes up there unless he has to.
Slender and I were standing and chatting, but Jeff was spinning around in a spinny chair. Slender is a mild germaphobe and takes cleaning very seriously, so every night after dinner he cleans the kitchen and dining room with bleach. I've been scared of bleach ever since that day almost a year ago, but the smell was fading so I was able to be in that general area.
Or so I thought. While Slender was putting the cleaning supplies back, his long arm bumped the bottle of bleach on the counter, and it went falling, heading straight for me. I screamed and lurched backwards as it fell, splashing my shoes and socks. A pair of strong arms caught me and wrapped around my middle; I'd landed on Jeffs lap. He held me tightly to him and his expression was tense and horrified; I knew he was thinking the same thing I was. Slender couldn't find words.
Miss Phoenix, please forgive me. I... he put a hand to his face. Jeffrey, would you please take Miss Phoenix upstairs while I clean this up. Oh dear me...
Jeff didn't need telling twice. He scooped me up and ran as fast as he could to our room. He laid with me on the bed, holding me in a vicelike grip while I tried to stop hyperventilating.JEFF'S POV
I knew Phoenix was having a flashback. She was breathing heavily, shaking and whimpering. I held her tightly to me as I stroked her hair, trying to calm her down. "Phoenix, I love you. It's okay. I'm here, I love you...." It took her a few minutes, but eventually she quieted down. She looked at me and said, "Jeff, you're the best. I don't know what I'd do without you."
I laughed and said, "Well, you won't have to find out, because I'm never leaving you."
She kissed me passionately, then buried her face in my chest, murmuring, "I love you so much." We stayed like that for a long while. Eventually Slender came up and we looked at him.
All of the bleach has been cleaned, Miss Phoenix. I truly am sorry. That was a stupid accident on my part. Can you forgive me?
Phoenix slowly got up and hugged Slender tightly.
"Of course I forgive you, Slender. It was an accident. I was never mad."
Slender hugged Phoenix back and said Thank you my child. Although if I may make a suggestion, perhaps it would be best if you stayed in here while I worked with bleach in the future, to prevent similar accidents from happening. Phoenix agreed, and Slender left the room, bidding us goodnight.
We slept in each other's arms that night and thankfully Phoenix was untroubled by nightmares.
