"No way in hell that gon' ever happen. Pretty souls don't just go that way."

"Why are you here?" She had asked me.

"I should be asking you that." Honestly, I should. She shouldn't be at this place by this time.

I handed her my red bandana. She glanced at me before taking it and wiping her tears. I wanted to know why she was crying this way.

Awele, the weird girl who was always silent in class. Her eyes were swollen and looked like they bore a lot of pain in them.

Contrary to whatever romantic thing you might have suspected to happen that night was all an illusion. They never happened.

She stood up and walked away. Just like that.

But for some reasons unknown to me, that fateful kept resurfacing in my head, clouding my thoughts. It was too much.

She seemed happier than that night. I mean, she's gotten herself two bestfriends. They were always seen together.

She was also talking more than before, maybe not to everyone but at least she was talking to someone.

I watched as she clutched her stomach as she laughed to whatever Diane was saying.

She looked beautiful. Ethereal.

I've never seen anyone look so beautiful even with her flaws. She had acne but still took my breath away whenever I looked at her.

"You should definitely talk to her." I turned to see Nengi munching some chips.

"What? Who? Talk- to who?" I said nervously.

"You know who. Awele" I gulped.

"Why would I talk to her?"

"You like her. For the first time in years, I'm seeing that look in your eyes again." I clenched my fist knowing what he was talking about.

"Guy forget it!." I got up and stormed out, carrying my gym bag to my basketball practice.

"Kanye!" I heard him yell my name but I didn't turn back. He just ruined my day.

I was still thinking about it when I bumped into a small person.

"Watch where you're going, would you?" I heard someone say beside me. It was the new girl, whatever her name was. One person was missing. Silvia. Thank goodness.

"I'm so sorry." I heard the small person. The small person was the girl that had been raiding my thoughts all week.

I felt like bursting and yelling at her. But all the anger had disappeared.

See what a small girl has done to you.

"It's- it's fine. I mean, I should have seen you coming. Uhm- I think I should go now." I walked away really fast. My heart was freaking out.

"Always so late for practice, welcome our king." Mr. Femi, our basketball coach said.

"Sorry sir."

"Get on the court!" He yelled and I quickly joined my team. I was the captain of the basketball team..so y'know how it is.

After the whole game and my team beating our opponents 5-3, we decided to call it a day. We were already exhausted. I felt so sticky so I went into the male changing room.

"Josiah what is it now?" I asked Josiah who was busy ransacking my gym bag.

"I'm looking for snacks. I know you always keep snacks in here. Oya where is it?" I just stared at the fair idiot.

"You're mad. So you're the only that takes my chips every time. I've caught you today. I didn't bring sha."

"Fool. You and Nengi are the same."

"How?" I asked him and he said nothing. He just went mute.

"D'you think I should break up with Gold?" I was taken aback. Finally bruv!

"D'you want to? I can't tell you what to do. It's you dating her not me."

"The feelings are no longer there."

"Josiah the feelings were never there. You were just intentionally blind to it."

"It's going to break her and I don't want to hurt her."

"But you're hurting yourself by being with her. If not for anything, at least for your sanity. That girl is a lunatic."

"Guy no dey insult my babe."

"Carry your babe comot for road." We changed into our uniforms and carried out gym bag on our way out.

"Senior Kanye. Mr Femi is calling you." One junior approached me and left faster than he came.

"I'll see you later." Josiah said before shaking hands with me. I quickly went back to the basketball court to meet with Mr Femi.

"Ehen. I'd like for you to do some personal training for our new recruits. Training session would be anytime that is convenient for you. One that doesn't interfere with your studies."

"Okay sir."

"Good. But it must be done two days a week before general training on Friday during PE period."

"Okay sir. I'll go find a convenient time for the practice." He nodded and I left. I loved basketball so I couldn't argue.

The guys were waiting for me by the hallway. Josiah stood across Joshua and Nengi with Gold. They seemed to be in am intense conversation.

I went to meet with the other two guys. Nengi was on his phone while Joshua was talking to one of his chic from our class.

"Hey guys." Nengi nodded while Joshua didn't even acknowledge me. Why would he when he's toasting the life out of that girl?

Cause the way the girl be blushing ehn. I don't understand girls sometimes. She's very much aware that Joshua is a playboy and she's standing here listening to him making stupid advances at her.

School was over and almost all the school's population had left the school premises. BHA students don't waste time in leaving the school.

"And you're just fucking telling me now! Just how heartless are you boys?! Ehn tell me." We heard Gold cuss at Josiah. She kept on hitting him on the chest and damn¡ it looked painful.

"You're a FUCKING liar! You're messed up. Go ahead and enjoy the rest of your fucked up life. I certainly do not wish you the best in life." She said before walking out still yelling 'Fuck you Josiah' as she went.

We went over to him once the crazy lady had gone. His head was to the ground with his hands in his pocket.

"That- did not go well." Nengi told him.

"But on the bright side, you got rid of her. She couldn't even act civil about it. You made the right choice by dumping her ass." His twin, Joshua said.

"Guys, let's go abeg. That girl has vex me." I told them and they started laughing including Josiah. He looked pained or something.

"Are you okay with what she said?" I asked him.

"Yeah. I'm fine. I don't know. I feel bad for dumping her that way." He expressed his feelings.

"You did not dump her. You just ended things civilly. But she's too crazy to realize it." I explained and he just nodded.

"I think I know what we all need right now." We all looked at Joshua to hear the nonsense he'll spit out.

"Let's go play FIFA 22 in Kanye's house." They couldn't come.

"You can't come. My father's home." The expressions on their face turned grim.

"My house then." Joshua said and we cheered as we got into Joshua's car that his driver brought. The driver has been waiting outside since.
