I pulled away from Maki in both happiness and curiosity. Why did I kiss her? What at that moment made me assume that it was right to kiss her like that?
It appeared that after the kiss everything was pretty strange... I mean she was a great kisser, but why did I even get the sign to-
"I- I guess that just happened... What do we do next?" Maki asked me trying to get her mind off the kiss.
"I really don't know Maki... I really don't know." I replied still in disbelief I kissed her...
Well for one thing your apartment looked like a total wasteland and a crime scene. You had no clue what you were going to do with Matilda's dead body. It wasn't like you disposed of a dead body before.
"So... What do we do with Matilda?" I asked Maki with an uncomfortable tone to my voice.
As an assassin, Maki has probably disposed of hundreds of dead bodies... So many that it won't be much of a hassle for her to dispose of Matilda too. That may sound pretty dark and gruesome, but in this situation, I had no other choice but to get her help with this...
"Just throw her off the building. Easy as pie..." Maki added, and for an assassin that was a very amateur move.
"Throw her off the building!? Are you crazy!"
"Well, what would be even crazier is a famous lawyer going to jail for murder! Anyway, the window is already broken so you can throw her off."
"...Okay if you insist Maki."
I couldn't believe I was doing this. I mean I knew we had to get rid of Matilda one way or another but throwing her off the fourteenth story of a tall skyscraper seemed like a cruel end even for someone as horrifying as her.
However, it had to be done. It was either Matilda or me and Maki.
I and Maki picked her up and as expected bloody oozed everywhere... It was hard to look at her dead body, yet Maki didn't even have an uncomfortable look on her face. Sure she had done this a hundred times or so, but come on a dead body can creep the hell out of anyone! Especially if you are about to throw it off a tall skyscraper!
"One! Two! Three!" Maki counted and on three we threw Matilda off the skyscraper.
I could hear a huge splattering noise after a few seconds, but there was no way I was going to look down there. Maki on the other hand was staring down at the body, and she still didn't have a grimace on her face! It was saddening that she had to see things like this so many times that she got used to it!
"Well, I guess it's over... Y/N I am so sorry for all of this. You are an amazing human being, and trust me if we are caught I am going to take all the blame..." Maki stated with a serious tone of voice.
"It's okay Maki-"
"No! None of this is okay... Your apartment is trashed, the clan is going to kill me for this, and there is a chance your reputation might get ruined if the authorities find out about this!" Maki snapped, and she clearly wasn't okay.
"Maki! You are safe now! Everything is going to be okay. You have nothing to worry about!"
"You don't know how many times I have been told I have nothing to worry about! Turns out I have way more to worry about than I expect every single time. You don't know what it is like to wake up every day and fear for your life... You won't understand..." Maki explained, and she looked like she was about to explode in tears...
Maki seemed like she was a damaged girl, and it was going to be a difficult job to cheer her up. However, something wanted to make you help her out. If it wasn't for her you would be in Matilda's place right now. Maybe it was the fact that she had to be put through the system of those people... She needed some normalcy... or maybe it was something I never thought would happen. Maybe it was even love!
"I care about you Maki. I really do, and I know you care about me. Because if you didn't you wouldn't be here. It's obvious there is something here. I know you are worried about something, but I am going to make sure that we are safe and sound! Trust me... You will never have to kill another innocent person ever again." I implored Maki hoping that she would understand where I was coming from, but a speech wasn't going to cheer her up.
"How do you know that?! One week we may be together, but the next who knows where we would be! You could be dead for all I know, and that would break me." Maki confessed.
"Maki... I promise you that I will keep you safe." You simply stated, and just like that Maki hugged you.
She didn't let go for an entire hour. It was obvious that she needed someone to care for her, and if no one else was going to step up then it was your job to make sure she never killed again.
"I- I- I am usually n-not this emotional, b-but this means the world to m-me Y/N. Promise me that you will never let m-me go!" Maki whimpered, and you nodded.
When Maki finally pulled away you could only gaze into her eyes. She has seen so much death, despair, and heartbreak, but you know you could add some light into her eyes by showing her what the world really offered.
She's now my duty and for the rest of my life, I stuck to that goal.
