That night...

Maki's pov

I could see their faces... All of them...

"Maki... Why did you get to live? You live to kill, and we live to love... Why aren't you here?" Rantaro ominously said to me.

Right after he made that suspicious and morbid remark an iron ball was thrown into the back of his head.

"Maki. I never deserved to die. I was joyful, bright, and kind to all of you. On the other hand you were an ungrateful jerk!" Kaede yelled, and just like Rantaro, she was killed too.

It was a repeated cycle... Everyone who died came back to haunt you, and you were forced to wear the blood of their anger and sadness.

"I never w-wanted this to happen to any of you. You all deserved to live, and I am sorry you had to die."

It was no use. They just kept dying... You wanted this to end, but-

"Maki!"

"Huh? Y/N?"

It was done... They were all gone. It was over...

"Maki I heard you from the other room... It sounded like you were screaming at someone! Is someone in here?!" Y/N asked with seriousness in their voice, but it was nothing for them to worry about.

"I was having a nightmare that's all." I simply stated.

To be honest, if I told Y/N about Danganronpa they would probably pity me...

"What was it about Maki?"

Crap! What am I going to tell them? Should I tell them the truth or makeup something on the spot? Dammit!

"I- I was b-being attacked by werewolves, and t-they wouldn't stop no matter how much I yelled at them... I was so scared..." I fibbed, and it seemed like Y/N believed me but they still seemed a bit skeptical.

"You're an assassin if you can kill people why can't you kill werewolves?" Y/N asked, and I struggled to keep this lie going...

"Um... I d-don't know..." I said, and at this point, there was no hiding it anymore.

When I lie I start to stutter and dart my eyes away from the person I am talking to... I don't know if I want to tell Y/N about that...

Y/N's pov

Maki wasn't lighting up... It was obvious she wasn't having a nightmare about werewolves. If she was she would easily kill them!

"Maki, what's going on? Tell me what you were really dreaming about..." I asked Maki, and she sighed and started to explain what really happened.

"Have you ever heard of Danganronpa, or specifically Danganronpa Killing Harmony?" Maki asked, and I had no clue what that was.

"No."

Danganronpa? What kind of thing is that? It sounds like dang and Ron pa!

"It was a show that makes sixteen ultimates kill each other. They give us motives to kill and then someone betrays the group by killing one of the other students. We were forced to do class trials to determine who the culprit was or we would all perish. I dreamt of everyone who died... They were saying I deserved to die and they should have lived... What if they were right?"

What... The... Hell. What does the world have against this girl? Maki is literally the only girl in the world you held this much sorrow for. She was already forced to kill so many innocent people, but in Danganronpa she was obligated to solve their murders or she would be killed herself!

"Maki I honestly can't find a single word that would change your mind, but you are here now. You deserve to live. I know I will never go through something like that, but you have people that care about you. You have family, friends, and people who would be heartbroken if you were gone." I explained to her, but not too long after I found out how that made it worse.

"No, I don't... I was given up to an orphanage when I was a baby... All of my friends were murdered by the clan. No one cares about me, and that is the hard truth." Maki confirmed, but she was mistaken.

"I care. I care about you Maki."

After you made that statement you saw Maki smile for the first time ever. Sure it was pretty faint, but you were glad she knew you cared.

"Thank you Y/N... That means a lot to me... I- um... I care about you too..." Maki confessed.

"Okay well, I have a big day tomorrow in court. I need to go back to bed. Are you going to be okay?"

"...No... Can you... S-sleep with me... NOT SLEEP SLEEP WITH ME! Just... sleep next to me..." Maki mumbled, and you couldn't find a reason why you shouldn't sleep with her.

"Of course."

From that day on Maki knew that someone cared about her, and one day she grew to care about her own family. However, that is way down the road...

That night also marked the start of something else. My love for your mother.
