Luke

We're taking a road trip!

We decided that while neither of us have jobs, we should take advantage of the unemployed life and take a vacation for a few days.

It's been three weeks since we got together and we thought this would be a great way to celebrate.

We packed this morning and met at the gas station on Main Street. Now we're just sitting in the car. Audrey insisted that she drives, at least for the first hour or so.

"Where are we going?" I ask after about half an hour of driving.

She looks at me over her sunglasses and smiles. "Somewhere new."

I laugh. "Any ideas?"

"Anywhere the wind takes us," she states. I can't help but smile. I've never seen her so happy and confident about something.

We play car games for about an hour. We try to spell out our full names on license plates and road signs, and sing songs we remember from summer camp.

We pass through The Bay Area after about an hour and a half and drive across the bridge just so we can see San Francisco.

At one point we stop the car so I can grab my guitar from the back and I play and sing to her in Golden Gate Park. Mostly All Time Low and Nirvana. She yells at me when I try to play songs with screamo in them, so I play a few Taylor Swift songs instead, and she sings along.

I put my guitar back in the car and we play tag in the park and I chase her to the old windmill and we kiss in front of the view of the ocean. The wind blows her hair between our faces and we pull away from each other laughing, before I tag her. "You're it!" I run and she chases behind me in her boots and striped dress. She laughs so loud everyone looks at us, but neither of us cares.

When I feel her close behind me, I turn around and stand still so she runs into me, and I pick her up and spin her around. I keep her in my arms and she kisses me. I put her down, our lips still locked, and we stand in the middle of a giant field, surrounded by people, making out intensely.

When she pulls away, I yell, "Race you back to the car!"

We drive to the nearest In 'n' Out Burger and get lunch. Audrey orders a cheeseburger with no onions and a chocolate shake and I order an animal style burger with everything on it and a neapolitan shake.

We eat in the car, and I drive this time. Audrey says she feels bad that I can't watch tv or anything while I drive, so she tries to entertain me with her witty comedy. "So, guys," she says in a high voice, though I'm the only one here. "What's up with airplane food?" She makes her voice crack in the middle of the sentence and I laugh hysterically. "Also, like, Doritos? Why are they triangles?" she shouts at the top of her lungs. "What's up with that?"

We drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge and continue to drive for hours. Audrey tells me jokes and puts on loud music and tries to find trivia questions I don't know the answer to.

After about three hours of driving, we reach a cute town that seems to only be a little bigger than ours. We decide to stop a nice little inn.

We walk through the door to the lobby, Audrey's arms draped around my shoulders. "We'd like a room, please," I say with a smile.

The lady at the front desk looks at us suspiciously. "ID please."

I chuckle a little at the fact that she doesn't think we're old enough to rent a hotel room. I hand her my ID, and Audrey hands her her credit card, after she wins the argument about who's paying. The lady grabs us a room key. "Checkout's at 12."

We race to the room (I win) and throw ourselves on the bed. She rolls on top of me, straddling my lap, and kisses me. I kiss her back with a smile. "I like you a lot."

"I like you too, Hemmings," she giggles.

I feel my phone buzzing in my pocket, and she grabs it for me and answers. "Luke's whore house, you got the dough, we got the ho, how can I help you?"

I crack up and take the phone from her. "Hello, this is Luke. This isn't a whore house."

"Lucas!" Ash's voice sounds through the speaker. "So you own a whore house?"

"Sorry," I laugh. "That was Audrey."

"How long are you gonna be gone, buddy?" he asks.

"I don't know yet," I tell him, as Audrey leans down and sucks on my neck. I smile widely. "Possibly quite a while."

"Okay, man, well we miss you."

"I've been gone for less than a day, Ash. How much can you miss me?"

Ash laughs. "Just isn't the same without you here, Lukey. But I'll let you go."

We say our goodbyes and I hang up.

Audrey continues to bite at my neck and I flip us over so I'm on top of her. I kiss her neck and then her lips. Things get heated. I pull at her shirt and she takes it off, mine following close behind. I kiss her chest, then her stomach, then her hips. "Luke," she murmurs.

"Hm?" I hum against her skin.

"No further please."

I look up at her. "Oh, okay."

"Sorry, I'm just not-"

"Don't apologize," I tell her as I bring my head back up to hers. "We won't do anything you're uncomfortable with."

She smiles at me. "Thanks."

We spend the rest of the night cuddling and watching reruns of friends on the crappy TV.

Nothing's missing. Sometimes in a relationship, I feel like there's something important missing, but with Audrey, I never feel that. Everything is here and now. Everything is perfect.
