In which, Gon finds an odd friend by the lake.

I'm. . . not too sure about the logistics of how they breathe but bear with me :')

This extra is so out of left field, but I've had so much brain rot of this idea that I just had to write it down or I would implode.

hope you enjoy! :D

"Capture the Lord of the Lake, and you can go take the Hunter Exam."

That's what Aunt Mito had told him the day before.

So, just as the light of morning began to shine over Whale Island, Gon rushed out of his covers with a large smile. He stretched lightly before running around the room and fixing himself up for the day.

Down the hall, Mito slowly emerged from her room as well — though lacking the pure energy Gon seemed to have. She yawned tiredly, her steps echoing through the cold hallway before a set of quicker, loud footsteps emerged from behind her.

She blinked in confusion as a blob of green ran past her, sending an excited wave.

"G'morning! I'm going out for the day! Bye, Aunt Mito, I'll see you later!"

Mito barely had time to give a response, "What? But — Gon! You haven't even eaten breakfast yet. Why so early?"

Gon paused, setting his hand on the front door's handle. He turned back, sending Mito a grin as he chuckled. "I'm not sure what time the Lord of Lake will be best to catch. So, why not start early? Oh - and don't worry! I'll find something to eat on my way there!"

Without another word, he ran out the door with a small laugh. Mito reached a hand out with a silent gasp before pulling back, catching herself quickly. She let out a small sigh as the house was left in a hush silence.

"There he goes. . ."

Soft crunches rang out through the forest as a pair of green boots ran across the forest happily.

Drops of morning dew glistened in the sun, adding to the gentle atmosphere of the day. Gon sighed softly, pausing to regain his breath.

He could find his way around the forest quite well — both from memory and basic instincts. Heading to the lake was as easy as walking to the docking area! Just a lot more walking. But that was never a concern as he set off into a sprint again.
