Part I

". . ."

Another handful of water pooled itself into trembling hands. The liquid was icy, freezing cold. It paired well with the shivering boy who held it. But the shaking wasn't caused by temperature.

Far from it, actually.

Small beaded drops fell into the sink, swirling together with the light crimson that coated his fingers. Tears could have been added into the mix -- if Killua had allowed himself to cry at that moment.

Instead, his gaze slowly trailed from his hands to the mirror. Dull eyes were all that stared back. Once a vibrant blue, they were left saturated —somehow both distraught and lifeless at the same time.

His fingers twitched slightly at the sight, letting his head fall down again with a pursed frown. The strong rush of running water was all he could hear in front of him.

Killua brought the handful of water to his face instantly. He leaned over the sink with a heavy exhale, scrubbing the skin with a certain bitterness that kept him from stopping. His nails scratched at the skin, to the point where he couldn't tell if he was bruising it or cleansing it.

All he felt was a lingering numbness.

He glanced up at the mirror once more. Stray droplets of water trickled down his skin slowly. His stomach churned as the water was left stained, leaving streaks of dull crimson on his cheeks.
