.Matteo had never smiled so much. It was the best thing that ever happened to him.
And he was telling his brothers just that.
"I fell in love with her courage, her sincerity, and her flaming self respect. And the ways she can kill a man and not even blink. God the way she smells," that wasn't a weird thing to say, was it.
Enzo stared at him. "You know I kind of get it."
"You do?" This was new to Matteo.
"Yeah, I think I'm there. Or atleast really close to it."
"Whose the lucky soldier?" Matteo smiled.
The soldier joke referred to the first time the Rossi family had traveled to the United States. At 16 years old Matteo Rossi walked in on his 18 year old brother being... well. It was one lucky solider. And something Matteo never need to see.
"You know. It's nothing." Enzo's ears seemed to catch on fire. The tips turning a bright red.
Matteo reached over and flicked the burning skin. Cuasing Enzo to curse at him.
Their laughter filtered through the room before the doors slammed open.
Athena and Ford stood at the opening staring at the brothers.
"Athena"
"Ford?"
Both brothers questioned at the same time. They turned to eachother.
"So he's the lucky solider."
Matteo chuckled, patting Enzo on the back while he continued to blush.
"We need to talk," the words out of Ford's mouth made Matteo cringe.
It was never a good thing to hear those four words.
"It's nothing bad, well maybe it's bad. I just got to tell you something. And, and Athena needs to talk to Matteo anyways! So I mean it's a good time." Ford let out a nervous chuckle.
Enzo glanced at his brother than back to Ford. "Okay."
Enzo stood slowly and walked after Ford as he exited the room. Leaving Matteo and Athena left.
"I just want to tell you something."
She smiled at him.
Matteo stared at her calmly. "Did I every tell you how much I love you?"
She smiled.
"That's what I wanted to talk about. I have few things to say. If you wouldn't mind listening."
He nodded then spoke. "You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I'll listen to you forever."
"First of all, I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
She cracked her knuckles whipping the sweat of her forehead.
"But I know you can becuase you have held me through everything. From helping me remember my life. To holding me while I was passed out drunk."
She took another breather. Looking him in the ideas as she began the next part.
" I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, the way i feel like when you touch me. Or how you hold me so close. How you love me. I've never been inlove before but i know i am when i look at you."
She finished, staring at him. He stared at her hands in shock and surprised.
He looked back up at her, "You mean it? Truly mean it?"
She nodded her head quickly.
"God I love you." And he kissed her. Kissed her with all he had.
And when they pulled away, both out of breath. Smiling widely at one another.
Matteo asked, "Why, why would you tell me now?"
"Becuase it was always there. But now I have you. And I will never be alone again in my life. You are part of my family now."
He kissed her forehead, bringing her in for a bone crushing hug.
She pushed back slightly, "I've got to tell you, that I have a mission. It's in California. I don't know when I'll see you again. But I promise I love you, no matter where I am in the world."
He kissed her again.
"I know, I know you work. I know you save loves. Doesn't mean I won't miss you . Just come home to me, alright? Always come home to me."
"Always." She whispered in response.
