Y/N's POV
"So, any new things we should know about?" Ezra's words almost made me choke on my drink, and River just wiggled his eyebrows making me laugh
I hesitated before giving him an affirmative answer. I knew I could trust them, I just barely talked about it with Morgan, and I tell them everything, so it felt weird doing it when they barely knew.
"Yeah, I mean, I got a job at Oleg Resources." I wanted it to be lowkey at first, then get into the serious stuff.
"With the serial killer?" River laughed but immediately stopped when he noticed that I wasn't doing the same.
"Nothing about that is true, I assure you."
"Oh, and why would you happen to know that?" River grinned. He knew something was up, and so did Ezra. I just had to tell them.
"I talk to Wanda."
"You call her by her first name? You are getting some, aren't you?" My brother-in-law exclaimed and almost jumped off of his chair.
I wish, Ezra. I wish.
"I'm not. It's just...it's weird? I don't know how to explain it."
"Just do it, we'll try our best to understand."
I took a big breath before starting to talk.
"The day of the interview...she asked me the interview her, on the spot. I thought it didn't make sense at first, but then she told me that she just wanted to see me in action, so I did it. Turns out I was the only one who did that, everyone else didn't even last as long as me." I saw River wiggle his eyebrows but immediately signaled him to stop. Perv.
"The same night, there was the fundraiser at the Stark Mansion and she was there. She got so close to me, analyzed every single detail about me...it was there that I started to feel something, but then, it was the morning after that everything started to feel weird. Jules got called in, she is my friend, by the way, she also did the interview."
"And you?"
"I didn't. Maybe I blew it at the interview or at the fundraiser...I don't know. I was very disappointed, I couldn't stop thinking about it." I stopped to take another breath, and the boys in front of me signaled me to keep going.
"I didn't get a call for a whole week until I ran into her at a bar. I told her that I didn't care about what she said anymore, and she looked like she regretted how she acted. That's when I got the message, asking me to go into her office first, so I did. The morning after I went there and she gave me flowers to apologize for the night before, but she told me she didn't regret acting that way because I wasn't being nice to her."
"Bitch."
"I know, right?"
"Is there more?" Ezra asked, getting slapped by River on his arm.
"What? I enjoy the drama!"
"For your happiness, there is more."
"Go on!"
"Well, she told me that Jules' article was going on the front page, and I was happy about that because I told you, Jules is my friend, but you know, who doesn't wish their article was on the front page? She asked me to come back into her office after work and I did. I found a piece of paper on her desk. She asked me to write an article and that if she liked it, it would go on the front page instead of Jules'. Here comes the fun part, that's when I had a panic attack in front of her! It was great." I joked, I really didn't like being vulnerable in front of others, and they knew it.
"She calmed me down."
"She what?" River was in disbelief.
Ever since I first started having panic attacks, River was the only one who could calm me down from them. Not even Morgan could do it.
"She did, and after that, she told me to think about writing the article. I started at the paper for probably thirty minutes before her best friend walked into her office. Natasha, that's their name. She told me that if Wanda seems rough, if she sounds firm, it's because that's all she's known her whole life. And that she doesn't just give flowers to everyone."
"Interesting."
"I didn't write the article, I couldn't do that to Jules. I was scared to disappoint her and she noticed it because she thought I was afraid of her, she seemed...sad about it. Oh, and she also gave me a ride home today. She said that the bus was going to be late."
"So...let me get this straight." Ezra stated before he went into deep thoughts mode.
"Is he okay?" I asked my brother, quite worried.
"Give him time."
"She gives you flowers, calms you down from a panic attack which is something that only your brother can do. Her best friend talks to you about her, she is worried that you might be scared of her, but after that, she gave you a ride home. Right?"
"Yes."
"Why the hell aren't you together yet?!"
River laughed at his boyfriend, he was quite adorable, to be honest.
"Well, I basically don't know her, and she hasn't given me the chance to."
When I said that, both River and Ezra looked at me weird.
"What?"
"Are you stupid or just pretending to be?"
"I don't know what you mean."
"Y/N, she is trying to let you in! The flowers, she gave you the opportunity to have an article on the front page of one of the most famous journals in all of the country! Her best friend told you that roughness is all she's ever known in her whole life, and to me, these actions sound like she's trying to get past that."
Well, if you put it like that...
"But I don't understand, if she's trying to let me in then why doesn't she regret acting that way with me?"
"Because she's scared that you don't feel the same. She tries to let you in but not too much, so she won't get hurt if you reject her." River's words made sense, but I still couldn't wrap my head around one thing.
Why me?
