Wanda's POV

It was the weekend now, and also my birthday.

I wasn't a fan of celebrating, mostly because Pietro and I always relayed on each other when it came to our happiness, so we never had big parties.

All of our friends at school always asked us why we wouldn't, I mean, we had the house, the money, we had everything.

People think that just because you seem like a specific person, it doesn't mean you actually are.

We weren't happy because we were rich, we were happy because we had each other and that was all that mattered to us.

I picked up my phone, going to text my brother.

Wanda
Happy birthday, womb thief.
I love you, P.
(I have no clue as to where in the world you are right now, but I hope the food is good so you can have a proper food marathon like we used to do as kids.)

Womb thief🏃
I'm a womb thief? I am older than you.

Wanda
And why are you flexing that? It just means you're going to be a grandpa before I even get wrinkles on my face.

Womb thief🏃
Whatever.
Happy birthday to you too, Wands!

I smiled at my brother's texts and then immediately switched to another contact.

Wanda
Hey pretty girl, the group and I are hanging out today. Wanna tag along?

Babyclaws🧛‍♀️
I'm actually quite busy today, Wanda.
I'm sorry, I hope I can make it up to you and the group soon. Tell them I said hi though!

Wanda
Oh, that's okay, I will.
I hope you have a good day, my love.

I couldn't help but let a frown make its way on my face, did she even remember it was my birthday today?

I didn't like celebrating it, but I at least wanted to spend it with the people I cared about.

I shook my head in the hope to let the negative thoughts get lost, which seemed to work for a total of five seconds, then it all came back again.

It was bad, it was very bad.

I kept telling myself not to panic, that she would reach out eventually and that I had to be patient.

She would give me explanations, she would tell me the truth.

I got ready for the day, which I spent for the most part at home until it was time to go out with the group.

I wore a simple but cute and comfortable outfit, took everything I needed, and drove to where we were meeting, which was a cafè we had been going to for a couple of years.

It was a calm ride, there wasn't too much traffic and I was loving it. With what happened earlier that day I probably wouldn't have been too respectful of the rules.

I parked the car in front of the cafè, seeing some familiar faces inside.

When I walked in I immediately went to the table where Steve, Bucky, Bruce and Jen were sitting, they were always on time, unlike the other ones.

"Happy birthday!" Everyone shouted in unison, making a few people turn around and some of them actually wished me a happy birthday, which was quite embarrassing.

"Shhh!" I hissed. "But thank you, guys. Where are the others?"

"Uhm, well...everyone except Kate and Yelena canceled, so it's just them. Work-related things. We're sorry, Wanda." Steve informed me.

If this day didn't already suck, it surely did now.

"It's okay, I get that everyone has their own life. We'll catch up." I stated as I sat down next to Jen. "Well, where are Kate and Yelena?"

"They said they were going to be a little late, but didn't tell us why." Bruce said and I just nodded at him. "Wanda, we're really sorry, you know?"

"It's okay Bruce, it's not your fault. Don't feel bad about something that you aren't responsible for. These things happen, it could have happened to me and I know that you all wouldn't have complained."

"But it's your birthday, Wands."

"We don't have to celebrate it, you know I hate doing that. And even if it was about celebrating my birthday, I'm going to have a birthday next year, the year after, and the year after that. It's okay, really." I reassured him. I knew my friends also had busy lives, so I wasn't going to sit there and hate on them just because they got held up at work.

"Hello!" We heard two familiar voices behind us, and it was of course Kate and Yelena.

"Hey! Mind explaining while you were so late?" Steve teased them.

"...We ran out of hot sauce and had to get some more." Kate stated, Yelena not moving a single muscle in her body.

"Hot sauce, really? So that's how being roommates is going for you two."

"It's important." Yelena said with her thick Russian accent that we all adored. "Kate is a terrible roommate, she's always complaining about something."

"Anyways..." Kate whispered. "Happy birthday Wanda!" The brunette exclaimed, hugging me. Yelena also wished me a happy birthday and hugged me, I felt a little of Natasha in that hug too.

"So, is Y/N coming? She's sweet." Jen asked, making me furrow my eyebrows. I knew she didn't mean that in the wrong way, but it still bothered me.

"Y/N isn't coming, unfortunately, she's also busy." I let out a sigh after pronouncing those words.

"Wanda...is everything okay?"

"I just..." My breath got stuck in my throat, making me need a few seconds before speaking. "I think I did something wrong. She's been distant and...it's awful."

Everyone looked at me with sorrow in their eyes, which if I had to be honest, I kinda hated.

"Why don't we go to yours? Let us do the cooking, I'm tired of this cafè's food anyways. It's not a good time and we want to take care of you." Steve suggested and everyone agreed.

"Wait, so we came here for nothing? Couldn't we just have stayed at-" Kate was cut off by Bruce putting a hand on her mouth.

"Let's just go."
