tw: mentions of panic attack

Y/N's POV

After that awful encounter with that guy at the club, Wanda and I were able to still have some fun with our friends and not let all the negativity ruin our night.

We danced it all out and got home just a couple of minutes before the sun rose.

When I woke up I turned around and found the other side of the bed empty, which left me confused: where could Wanda have gone?

Maybe she was just in the living room cooking breakfast like she was used to do, and even though I told her we could have turns she insisted that she would be the one to do it.

I got up and went to the kitchen to check, but Wanda wasn't there. I check all the other rooms in the house, but still, she was nowhere to be seen.

I picked up my phone and decided to call her, when a notification caught my attention.

Walterz👩‍💻
Hey love, I got called in for an emergency meeting, I hope to be back soon so we can spend the whole day together, I'm looking forward to that! You can have someone come over in the meantime if you want, I don't mind. I've made you some waffles for breakfast and put the caramel syrup you like on top. I'm sorry I'm not there now but I couldn't miss this. I love you, sweet girl.

The text made me smile, like anything Wanda did, honestly. I ate the waffles she made, which were delicious as always.

I thought about asking Morgan and Jules to come over, but knowing my best friends, they would probably smash something really expensive, and I wasn't in the mood to deal with any of that.

Instead, I decided to spend some time working before I could do what I had in mind.

Lately, I had been trying to write as much as I could, and yes, I loved it with my whole heart, but on the other side, it was kind of tiring.

Mostly, especially after last night's events, I was scared people would find out about Wanda and I.

I didn't want them to think I slept my way through this job, because I hadn't. I worked hard for it and my work proved it, and I would just have to keep doing so.

I know my coworkers were getting suspicious, with all the times I've gone to Wanda's office it was impossible no one could have gotten even the smallest hint, but I was glad no one had asked questions.

I waited for Wanda to come back the whole morning, but there was no sign of her. I texted and called her multiple times but still, I didn't get a response.

I started to worry, what if something had happened to her?

She was at the publishing house, nothing bad could have happened, right? Unless she wasn't there and she was actually somewhere else.

Wanda wouldn't lie to me, she would never.

Maybe the meeting was just taking longer than expected, it happens sometimes. I had nothing to worry about, did I?

It was Wanda. Wanda wouldn't be that kind of person.

I took some deep breaths and tried to calm myself down, but I knew that as much as I would try, I couldn't do it by myself.

Usually, there would be Wanda with me, but I had no one.

My phone was still in my hands, so I called the one person who I knew could help me.

"Hey sis, what's up?"

"Riv, I need to talk to you, please."

"Y/N, what's wrong?"

"I...I don't..."

"Y/N, breathe. Take deep breaths, don't ever stop. Listen to my breathing."

I could hear my brother's breath through the phone, it wasn't the same, but it would have to do.

River had always been the only person able to help me in these situations, and he still was. They had spent years of their life supporting me through every problem, it didn't matter how serious it was. He was there, he always had been and I knew he would keep being there.

I kept following his breath, I sat down on the couch, looking around. I wasn't still a hundred percent calmed down, but I was able to talk.

"Okay, I think I can do it now."

"Do it whenever you feel like it, I'll be here the whole time even if it means staying in silence."

"Thank you, Riv. I'm ready, though."

"That's amazing, I'm all ears then!"

"It's about Wanda..."

"What did she do? Do I need to-"

"Before you go into protective older brother mode, no, she didn't do anything. But I am worried something happened to her."

"Why's that?"

"She left me a text this morning saying she got called in at work, an emergency apparently, and this isn't the first time it happens. Thing is that it's taking longer than usual, I mean, the whole morning went by. And...I don't know if this could have anything to do with what's happening right now, but last night we went to the club-"

"Without me?!"

"Shush. We went to the club and this weird guy started flirting with me, and when Wanda noticed she tried to send him away, he mentioned her father and she was about to beat him up. We stayed there, she said she was fine and that we could keep having fun. What if wasn't and I just let it go? She's always here for me when I need support, but I can't realize when my girlfriend isn't okay? I...I don't know what to think."

"Wanda wouldn't lie to you, would she?"

"I know she wouldn't, but I'm still worried something is wrong. How can I not be?"

"You feel like you haven't done enough for her, right?"

"Kind of, yeah. I just...I don't deserve how good she's been to me."

"Y/N, don't. You deserve all the good things in this world, and Wanda is meant to stay in your life. However, I am your brother, and I know that words aren't going to make you feel better, so, can I suggest something?"

"Yeah, of course."

"Even if it is an emergency meeting, they still have breaks, right? Especially if it goes on for a lot of hours."

"I think so, yes."

"It's almost lunchtime, why don't you bring her her favorite meal? I'm sure that will make her feel better and you less worried."

"I guess I could do that, that's not a bad idea. Thanks, Riv."

"Anything for you, little sis. I love you!"

"I love you too!"

River's idea was actually great. That way I could show her how much I loved her and be less worried, I could also help with some work if she needed it, it wasn't like I had somewhere special to be.

Although Wanda liked to say she didn't, she loved fast food.

I asked Stewart to pick me up, which he happily did, especially after I told him I wanted to surprise Wanda.

It was time to keep showing her, even with the little things, how much I loved being her girlfriend and just how lucky I was.
