Some part of me knew deep down Vegas barely knew I existed. I'm certain he only ever thought of me as 'Kinn's friend', nothing more. But the slightest of eye contact we made, was enough to get my heart racing at speeds I'd never felt before.
Unknowingly, I turned back as Vegas walked away. The world seemed to have stopped as I watched him carefully make his way over to his table. Everything he did was so mesmerizing and graceful. When Vegas sat down, that's when I think he noticed me. He raised his glass and bowed his head in acknowledgement. I blinked and took a deep breath in attempt to calm myself. I don't think that interaction was ever supposed to happen.
'Tay,' I heard Time speak and I suddenly turned my head to look at him. Having no control over my emotions, I felt myself growing annoyed at the fact that it was him who disrupted my short and rare interaction with Vegas.
I sit down and shake the feeling off as we wait for the auction to begin. Tonight it was clear that Kinn was extremely frustrated and he left no stone unturned in expresses this.
Firstly, as much as Kinn thrived in his position as the head of the Main family, there was always a part of him who hated these pretentious events. They were dangerous and he always had to keep his guard up, trying not to get killed.
Secondly, all eyes were on him tonight. His troupe of bodyguards, even though they didn't say it, wanted to see his reaction to Porsche's behaviour. I always told Kinn to be kinder and smile around Porsche since he seemed like the kind of guy who hated authority. But since his 'incident' at the last event when he drank while working, Kinn's attitude towards Porsche was observed by the others and everyone knew it.
And lastly, the biggest problem and irritant of them all, or at least to Kinn he was, Vegas. I barely understood the rivalry between the Main and Minor Family, but it also wasn't my place to have an opinion or comment about it. But from our regular conversations, Kinn didn't think much of Vegas as a competitor. Well, in fact, he didn't think much of Vegas at all. He knew he was capable and untouchable and he was happy to have them both out of each other's way and minding their own businesses.
When I heard Kinn mention Vegas, blood rushed to my face. I always felt guilty about my crush, especially since, even today, seeing him was more exciting than any other part of the event...
I think it was because I was so riled up but time seemed to be moving by so quickly. I looked back on several occasions, but this time Vegas was looking directly back at me.
Obviously, he wasn't looking at me rather observing Kinn, but I could feel his gaze piercing when I turned my back.
I was getting hotter, and more restless. I ran my hand through my hair and took a sip of champagne. For the first time I realised the extent of my feelings. I don't think this was a crush anymore. I wanted Vegas. I needed Vegas. I needed him so badly...
