Comebacks are always stressful, but everything's fine

Comebacks are always stressful, but everything's fine.

Looking around the rehearsal space, everything seems to have finally fallen into place.  We're rehearsing for our performance tomorrow on Inkigayo and we've just been given a break for lunch, but none of us have headed up to the cafeteria yet.

SunSun is in the corner, Sunoo laying his head in Sunghoon's lap, looking up at him with a sweet smile while Sunghoon tells a story. The story is obviously funny since Sunghoon's whole body is shaking with laughter and I'm wondering how on earth Sunoo's head is staying still.

Newly (finally) united JayWon is standing against the wall talking and flirting. It looks very much the way that it was in high school when a couple of people with a crush leaned up against the locker to talk for as long as they could before class.

All over the room, Ni-Ki and my boyfriend, Heeseung, are playing soccer. Normally I'd be with them, but I'm tired today. Everyone is so happy and I don't want to drag along.  So I'm sitting here with my water bottle, happily resting and watching.

Heeseung steals the ball from Ni-Ki and I cheer. He doesn't really seem to notice.

"Alright, you guys, let's go eat before we run out of time!" Jungwon called to us.

I hesitate. I'm really comfortable and I don't want to get up right away. During a comeback, I like to take the slow moments as slow as possible. We don't get very many. In fact, tomorrow morning Heeseung and I have to get up at 3:30 to rehearse for a radio show. THEN go to Inkigayo. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

So I'm just going to sit here for another minute.

I watched as my boyfriend walked out the door with the rest of the group, laughing and talking with Ni-Ki. Ni-Ki always calls us his parents. We try to play with him and help him remember that he's a kid.

The room was quiet as everyone disappeared from sight.  I like it like this.  It's hard to think in the middle of everyone sometimes.  People are loud. The world is loud.  While I can definitely be really outgoing and have worked hard on that, I also really appreciate the quiet.

In the quiet, right now, I'm thinking about my life. I'm thinking about how I never saw myself here. I'm thinking about the night that Heeseung and I met, and how at first we used to sneak around so our friend groups wouldn't be jealous. How we talked about our plans for the future, but never in a million years envisioned that our plans would take us to k-pop stardom barely a year after we even met.  Now it's been almost two years.  TWO.

I'm thinking about how I wish that we had more time together.

I'm thinking about how JayWon and SunSun look at one another.

"Dude, you comin?" my boyfriend called me from the doorway. "I thought you were right behind me?"

I smiled and nodded, "Yeah, sorry. Could you help me up? I'm kinda stuck".

I'm not kinda stuck.  I'm just a shameless flirt and he knows it.

Heeseung laughed as he walked over to me and grabbed my hands to pull me up, giving me a warm smile.

"What are you doing in here?" my boyfriend asked.

"Just...thinking. Enjoying the quiet," I answered.

He nodded, letting go of my hands. I looked down at his hands with a pout.

"Awww, come on, dude. You know we have to be careful in the company," he answered my pout.

"Yeah, you're right. DUDE." I emphasized.  It sounded a little bit more sarcastic than I meant for it to. Heeseung raised an eyebrow.

"What's going on?"

"Nothing," I laughed, "that came out weird, I know. I heard it, too."

"No, but like, you've just been sitting over here in your own little world. Is something on your mind? Do you need to talk?"

I shook my head. "Nah, I'm just hangry I guess."

Heeseung walked ahead of me out of the practice room. Most of the time he walks ahead of me.

He pressed the button on the elevator and stood waiting. I walked slowly to catch up. We got into the elevator and leaned on opposite sides of the wall.

Heeseung looked over at me. I leaned my head back and looked up at the ceiling.

"Jake?"

"Hmm?

"Would you look at me, please?"

I lowered my gaze to look at my boyfriend.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked in return, "Nothing's going on"

The elevator dinged and the doors opened to the cafeteria.  I walked off the elevator, smiling as I walked by.

"Everything's fine."
