"No, but like for real, fuck being the leader."
We got into the SUV where an extremely pissed Yang Jungwon sat waiting.
"Dude, you totally look like a mafia boss right now," Heeseung began laughing...loudly. "I mean, we open the door to a big, black SUV with tinted windows and here's this mafia kid sitting here waiting to -"
"Heeseung, please just get in the car," I sighed. I had already crawled in past him and moved to the seat behind Jungwon. I laid my head on the back of his seat. My forehead cooled by the leather. I didn't realize that I didn't feel well until I let out a deep breath.
"You ok, Jake?" Jungwon whispered as one of our staff ushered a swaying Heeseung into the truck. He flopped down next to Jungwon and looked over at him with a smirk.
"Awwww, Wonnie...you aren't seriously mad at me, are you?" Heeseung pouted when he saw the glare coming from our leader.
"I am, actually," Jungwon said. You've barely even started doing the show and we had to cancel? Even if you could have done the show on-air, you certainly couldn't have been seen on camera."
"Jake could have stayed".
"Yeah, but then it wouldn't have worked. A change in Enhypen's schedule is all that works. Otherwise, fans would panic over the mystery illness or whatever-the-hell issue Heeseung has going on. They're going to panic either way."
"Pffff, no one cares that much."
"OF COURSE, THEY DO!"
I just sat there, unsure what to do.
Basically, at the moment my baseline is that I'm unsure what to do.
In front of me, I could hear Jungwon getting increasingly angry at Heeseung, who is a bit smug when he's drunk. But now Heeseung had gone beyond the point of smug and amused and was irritated.
"I don't understand why you're even mad at me - this has nothing to do with you!"
"This has everything to do with me!! I'm supposed to be in charge! I'm supposed to help us stay together, stay afloat, stay successful. You, Lee Heeseung, SPECIFICALLY, are making my job extremely difficult."
"Sorry for the inconvenience," Heeseung laughed, crossing his arms, closing his eyes and leaning back. It was clear that he was done with the conversation.
I let out another long sigh, "Sorry, Jungwon," I said, "it won't happen again."
"Jake," Jungwon turned in his seat so that he could see me, getting frustrated with the seatbelt keeping him from getting comfortable. "You can't promise that. And look, I know you didn't do anything. But also ... one of you has to do something. This can't go on. We're about to promote our second single of the comeback. The whole dynamic is messy.
"You have a choice to make. I don't know what that choice is, but the two of you have to figure out a way through this mess."
Jungwon looked down at the alerts on his phone. Twitter notifications were popping up with rapid succession. Jungwon turned the phone toward me so that I could see the comments.
