It was clear from the look on Heeseung's face that the feeling was not mutual. All color drained as he looked up at the handsome idol. He stood even taller than Heeseung with what I would have to call unnecessarily bright orange hair.
In my opinion, he looked like a traffic cone. A handsome one, but a traffic cone nonetheless.
After we all bowed, I saw Heeseung attempt an uncomfortable smile.
"Hi. Um... I'm sorry, I can't remember what generic English name you go by now? As my senior, I'd hate to call you the wrong thing."
Ok...what is happening, exactly?
"Ah, well, actually it isn't generic. It's Ethan."
Oh shit.
I could see Heeseung's eyes widen. He did not seem to be aware that this...person...was using his English name.
"Really? Hmm. For some reason I thought it was something else."
"It was. Then I decided to change it. But I'm surprised you didn't know that. After all, we debuted several years ago. And I thought you had quit training."
"I did," Heeseung said, "I also didn't follow your debut. I don't know a single song that you and your teammates have released, so this should be one hell of an interview."
"Ahh!" said the production assistant, as she walked into the booth, "I see you guys already know each other!"
I looked at her uncomfortably. There's no way she couldn't tell that the tension could be cut with a knife.
"Well," said Ethan, "Heeseung and I know one another. From way back in our trainee days. But I don't think I've ever met or heard of this other guy."
I saw Heeseung's jaw and fist clench as his eyes bore into the idol. He had two of his group members with him, and it was clear that they also had no idea what was going on.
"I'm Jake," I introduced myself with what I felt was probably a non-deserved 90-degree bow. But he was a senior, after all.
I looked to his peers and bowed again. "It's nice to meet you guys. I'm so sorry that I'm not very well prepared for the interview."
"No worries there!" the PA tried with all her might to lessen the tension in the room.
The producer flicked on the sign that signaled that we were about to go on air. We all took our spots and put our headsets on, Heeseung's eyes never leaving the orange idol.
This entire situation was making me nervous.
