Haruto POV
It was Sunday the following weekend when Junkyu Hyung and I invited Juria to our house, thinking the twins going to be more comfortable if they see her for the first time in their own safe space.
We talked with them during dinner, and while Ruto seemed excited to meet his unborn sibling, Ruka appeared to be more apathetic with the news. Which is concerning, considering she's the extrovert one among the two and I took the initiative to talk with her in private after dinner.
Ruka was slumping on her study desk when I opened her bedroom door. She had her white headphones on and bent her head down with a pencil on her hand. It was Saturday night, I doubt she's working on her homework. Even from the back, somehow I could see the grim aura surrounding her.
I knocked her door rather loudly to breach the bulky headphones and whatever it was she's listening to. She turned her face around and took her headphones off to her neck, giving me a questioning look.
"Can I come in?" I asked, leaning against the door frame, arms folded over my chest.
"Yeah." She answered with a shrug and watched as I stepped inside and closed the door behind me.
I sat down on the edge of the bed next to her desk and observed as she turned back to her notebook and scribbled something on it. "Hey princess, do you want to talk about something with me?" I asked softly.
Her pencil stopped moving. She tightened her grip and bent her head further down, her chin almost touching her chest. She was silent for the longest time, until I gave her an encouraging squeeze on her shoulder.
"I don't get why she wants to do that.." She started. "It's her baby. She's pregnant with it, but why is she giving up the baby? Does the baby don't matter for her? Even though it's hers and she's the mother? Doesn't it make her a bad person?"
My heart sank to the floor. I knew where this was going. I took her hand in mine and she lifted her head up and looked at me, seeking for an answer.
"Haruka, carrying and birthing a child for someone who can't experience it themselves is one of the most selfless acts a woman can do. It doesn't make her a bad person. In fact, she won't be able to do it if she doesn't have the purest, kindest, genuine heart to help someone in need." I said. "Not many people are willing to lend their body for the blessing of someone's else."
Haruka kept staring at me like she wasn't satisfied with my answer. "She's not giving up the baby, she's giving back the baby to where it belongs. And it's not because the baby doesn't matter for her. It's the other way around. She cared for the baby, she understands it's not hers and she's just helping us to have it." I continued.
She shook her head. "I don't know. She's no different than our mother who left us after she gave birth to us. They're the same. I don't like them."
Oh if only she knew Juria is her mother.
Moving her throw pillows to the side, I moved backwards until my back reached the wall, my legs laid flat on her bed with a quarter of them hanging over the edge. "Come sit here." I said, tapping the empty space next to me.
My girl put her headphones down on her desk and hopped onto the bed. She mimicked my position, leaning against the wall with her legs laid straight. Her heels barely escaped the edge of the mattress, and I took a mental note to ditch Ruka and Ruto's single bed and get them a new double bed. Their legs are too long for their own good.
I looked up to the white plain ceiling of her room as though it bore everything that I wanted to say to her and used it as a cheat sheet. Having almost similar experience, I quite understand how she felt. The feeling of being left behind and abandoned by supposed-to-be parents is the worst feeling a child could have.
