*Veronica's POV*
I do hope that Max isn't mad about the other day. When I left the gym he didn't look anywhere near angry. He just looked guilty. We hadn't talked for nearly a day and it did feel weird since we end up talking for a few hours either when I am at my house or at the gym.
I even kept on thinking about him each class, feeling a bit guilty and also alone. I was working on some math problems that were easy and some of my classmates needed to get help with them. They are not the smartest of the bunch in the class.
When I was done with that one problem I took a look at the next one. I was about to do that one problem, until I saw that something was already written, but in the right bottom corner of the page.
It wrote, "Visit me in the gym after school, M."
"Max?" I thought to myself.
"Veronica?" My math teacher, Mrs. M asked. "Do you need any help?"
I shake my head. "Uh No, thank you." I didn't care about my work anymore, just wondering why Max wanted to meet up with me. A bit of fear and excitement erupted in my stomach at this point. I couldn't focus on anything else.
When the school day was over and enough students and adults were gone I quietly rushed into the gym, already seeing Max leaning with his back against the raisers. His arms were crossed that made me think he really was angry. However his expression didn't look like it. He was just looking down, I'm guessing he was deep thinking.
"Hi?" I say, questionably.
His eyes looked up to me, like a dog who wanted a bone. His face lit up more than a few seconds ago. "Hey." His tone was soft and he did look nervous too.
"You...wanted to talk to me?" I ask, unsure.
He nodded, nervously putting his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, I want to apologize for pushing you to open up."
I scoff. "You didn't even know..."
"But I should have asked first, Veronica." He cut me off. "I am sorry for asking you all of those questions that day and before that and won't do it again, I promise."
I crossed my arms feeling a bit blushed from Max's apology. "Okay, I accept your apology."
He chuckled with me smiling at his really cute smile that showed a bit of his white teeth.
"Did you want to do some training for today then?" I ask.
"Actually, we are going to do something else."
I looked at him, confused. "What?"
He took out a piece of paper from his pocket. "It's just a little something."
I questionably take the paper and opened it to see three sets of numbers. "What are these?" I scan them.
"Those are coordinates."
I start to wonder where they could lead me. "I thought you would be familiar with them." Max mentions.
"Where do they lead to?" A smirk appeared on his face.
"Let's find out." He walked to the back of the gym and I start following him.
"You remember how we use the trapper to teleport monsters to other dimensions?"
I nod. "Yeah."
"You know that you can program it, right? So you can change the destination?"
Jake did mention something like that. I was just too afraid that if I attempt to try that part I might break it in some way. "Yeah, why?"
"Well, you can try putting those coordinates in the trapper and see where it takes you."
My eyebrow arched. "I doubt it could work for Earth."
Max scoffed and shrugged. "You never know."
"This is just for monsters to get back to their dimension." I argue.
"You never know unless you try it."
I take another look back down at the coordinates and decided. "Ok. You have the trapper?" I sigh and put the paper in my jacket pocket and take the trapper from him.
I open it and look at the code that was set for the dimension where the villains go and that was in German numbers. I did learn how to say and read German numbers from one to ten. I don't think I could learn more than that, or even words for a conversation.
"Where does it go?" I ask as I get it ready.
He just shrugs and say, "Let's find out."
I should have known Max was not going to tell me what was on the other side. I press the button on the top of the trapper and took a few steps away from where the portal was being formed. When it was done forming I took one step forward and weirdly stepped onto a floor of gravel? My other foot stepped on to it as I finally figured out where I was probably because of the wind starting to hit my face. I looked up and saw the sun nearly setting down and then looked back down seeing how I was up above the black laptop and the basketball courts.
"You sent me to the roof of the gym?!" I shrieked with a shocked look that made Max chuckle.
"Yup. Cool, right?"
I scoff and start taking in the new scene that I never knew I would ever be able to see. "That's an understatement."
I walked towards the edge where there was a small wall that forbid me or anyone to jump off right away.
"Why did you take me here anyway?" I ask as I turn back to Max.
He shrugs with his arms crossed. "I just thought you needed something fun to do, after everything that's been happening."
"Then we are going to be coming here more often." I mention and turn back to look out to the sunrise again, even if it did hurt my eyes a bit.
"How's that?" Max asks.
I shrug. "Isn't it obvious? My mom and Eliana are the most stubborn and hypocritical people I have ever met in my life, and that says a lot."
"I guess being assholes run's in the family?" Max asks.
I chuckle. "Yeah."
"I didn't really mean it like that though." Max immediately says.
My smile grew. "It's fine. I inherited it too actually."
He scoffs. "No, you didn't." And walked closer to me.
"Oh really? I just realized that..." I couldn't really say what I have just realized this week, and have been thinking about it ever since than.
"Realize what?" Max asked.
It's Max. He feels the same way about my family as I do. He has to understand this. "That I don't even love them."
