*Veronica's POV*
While people were putting up decorations and even at our school had been decorated with festive decorations to get in the spirit of Christmas. The decorations mainly reminded all of us that the two week break was coming up very shortly. With that Andy couldn't to talk about where he was going. He said he was going to Lake Tahoe to visit some of his relatives. Las Vegas for the second week of the break, and before he could continue Adrian finally interrupted who was studying for his history test tomorrow. "Yeah, yeah, Andy we get it your traveling, just shut up."
Andy's cheeks get red from embarrassment. "Sorry." I think he spoke for all of us without even knowing that not everyone can travel not one, but two places outside of our city.
I chuckled at it as I continued read one of my fantasy novels while sitting on the librarians desk. "Why are you traveling to Las Vegas if your relatives don't live there?" Vince asks as he plays with a tennis ball while sitting on the tables Adrian is doing his homework on.
Andy shrugs. "Just to have fun."
"Well good for you. While the rest of us might not even leave the house." Adrian says angrily.
"You'll do great, Adrian." Andy pats him on the back.
"Yeah." Vince agrees. "You do well at history like me and Andy."
"Oh, are you sure about that Vince?" I ask with a proud smirk.
He and Andy gave me a confused look. "Ok, that one test had to be rigged." He argued. I rolled my eyes with a scoff as I went back to my book.
"That's because you were too busy with these monster hunts." Adrian argues. "That reminds me, has the book been glowing ever since that last fight with Anubis?"
I shake my head. "No, I don't think so."
"Then what is it doing now?" Vince pointed out that my backpack that has been sitting on the desk next to me has been glowing yellow for who knows how long. I got off the desk and rushed to open it to quickly flip to the very last page it wanted me to see. The title of it was The Karakoncolos.
"What kind of a name is that?" Vince asks as he and Andy crowd around the book with me.
"Kara-kon-solos?" Andy tried sounding it out.
"Maybe Kara-kon-colos?" Vince guessed.
"Maybe, but it sounds like it's based around Christmas." I started to read the page.
The Karakoncolos is a mythical creature that has it's stories passed around in Bulgaria, Turkey, and Serbia. No one knows where it originated, but it is just known to be dangerous. It is said that it is crossed between the Devil and a Sasquatch. In some places The Karakoncolos stand on street corners on cold winter nights and give riddles. If they answered with the word 'black' they were free to go. If not, The Karakoncolos would kill them dead. The Karakoncolos have another trick other than super strength. It is able to disguise their voice to pretend to be anybody it wants to lure their victims into darkness and death. The Karakoncolos can and would put their victims in a trance and leave them roaming and even jump on their backs until he/she is exhausted. There was also a warning on the bottom of the page. "WARNING: Don't invite this creature into your house! If you invite one in, they would feel compelled to imitate their host's behavior. If you set fire to silk or thread, the Karakoncolos would be tricked into setting fire to its own, and would run out of the house screaming to find water. Your house could be up in flames along with it."
"Well that's another reason why we shouldn't open our doors to strangers." Vince says as he walks away and sits down on the seat next to Adrian.
Andy scoffs. "Especially on Christmas."
I close the book. "We just need to find out if this creature has done anything of the sort."
"Oh now it's 'we'?" Andy asks, crossing her arms
I sigh with annoyance. "Just get on it." He lets go of the smart look and nods to the order as he gets on his IPad along with Vince to find anything that could leak to The Karakoncolos.
It took a while but after typing "Nearest fires." and "Nearest Deaths" many articles have already been posted over the two weeks of December, starting on December 1. The articles said that many houses around the town, and basically everywhere around the county were full of houses burning down and some of the homeowners even going missing.
"There's no specific place where it's mainly in." Andy mentions while scrolling through the articles.
"Well I guess we're going to have to do more research."
Vince sighs. "If that's the case then I'm heading out."
"Me too." Andy follows along with Vince and I packing up our stuff. "Finally, I could get some peace." Adrian mumbled as we three left the library.
*Third Person Pov*
When walking home from the school Andy got to see all of the glowing santas and reindeer that were on his neighbors lawns. It helped him light his way home, but it didn't light it up fully to move away from bumping into a stranger. "Oh my god I'm so sorry." Andy says first as the man straightens his tall lean body with a light brown coat that reaches down to his knees.
"Oh It's mighty alright young lad. Um, could I get directions to the nearest bus stop please?" He asks, with a raspy voice.
Andy nods. "Certainly!" He turns around and raises his arm. "Just go straight past that black car over there and once you reach the street lights turn right and you'll see the sign." He turned back and noticed that the man's wrinkly face turned more heavily angry than friendly.
"Well thanks a lot boy." He said now not in a friendly matter.
"Uh, you're welcome?" Andy said back as the man walked past him and followed his directions. He stayed and wondered what made that man change his emotion from delight to anger. He noticed his watch on his wrist started to beep at 7:30 which alarmed him that he really had to get home now. His mind was then on getting home, but once he got back he never stopped thinking about that man.
