*Veronica's Pov*
I'm wondering if Andy would ever get a girlfriend at any point of his life. Being a big stalker is a big red flag if anyone is interested in him, not me, anymore I guess.
When we got the library that us four were only in Andy sprang up about me exerising in the cardio room. I asked if being a stalker is the only good thing he knows how to do at this point. He dodged it of course and demanded that I answer. I didn't see the harm in telling them, or him. Vince and Adrian didn't care, only Andy.
I did confess and that led to Andy ask if they can train with them then. I said no and when he kept on making up arguments to see why I should I changed the subject.
The latest event for our school The Halloween Dance is coming up and the boys had no interest in that even Andy. I bought tickets for me from my dad's money, as my two best friends Harley and Claire got their own tickets. I was surprise that they were going actually. I never thought of them as the party types, unlike the guys.
"It sounds stupid." Adrian says right off the bat.
"Yeah, and besides I have homework to do." Vince says as he checks his homework planner.
I turn to Andy sitting at one of the tables with the other two. "How about you, Andy?"
He shrugs. "I don't know. It's not really my scene."
Adrian arches his eyebrow to him. "Are you sure about that? Your girlfriend is going."
I don't know why but I felt my cheeks getting red as I looked away from him and the other two while Adrian and Vince smirk at each other.
"I'm not his girlfriend." I responded first with an angry tone and deep tone.
"Yeah Adrian and I'm not her boyfriend." He alarms him the same way.
The Ultimate Book in my backpack started to buzz and faintly glowed yellow. I quickly took it out and opened it to the back which revealed. "Anubis".
"Oh I've heard of this guy." Andy mentions, proudly and excitedly.
"Really?" I ask, curiously.
He nods. "Yeah, he's the god of Halloween."
"And the great Gatekeeper of the Realm of the Dead." Adrian reads what the sentence title says. The description underneath explains that Anubis wasn't just an evil spirit, but a good child.
What was in the book could have been from google from where the kids read it. Anubis was born from Osiris and Nephthys. Osiris wanted him to be born, but not Nephthys. He walked out of Osiris when Anubis was 10. Osiris had to work so much, that led Anubis to find a particular crowd of mischief and evil.
With no one caring about him or what he was doing Anubis created magic that none of his friends have ever thought of. For some time they were fascinated by his craft. Making people see things, destroying what could not be destroyed. It got to a dangerous point during a party when Anubis was angry at one of his friends for not being interested, and decided to set fire on him and kill him in front of everyone. No one knew what had killed him, but his friends knew exactly who it was. They soon drifted apart from him, leaving him with all of the evil magic he had created. The power got strong enough for him to create evil figures that humans know as fiction monsters.
"He was the one who created these monsters?" Adrian asks, uncertain.
I shrug. "I guess so."
"Does it say anything about what he can do?" Andy asks, as I flip to the back of the page. The amount of text on the front made his abilities move to the back. The abilities are: bringing up spirits and mummifying people.
"So people are going to mummies now?" Adrian asks, jokingly.
"Not if I can help it." I mumble determinded as I put the book back in my backpack.
"You mean 'we'?" Andy just had to say.
Vince groans even louder from annoyance as I ask. "Really? Again? Right now, Andy?!"
"Have you ever fought with a 'god' before?" Adrian asks, looking actually surprisingly worried.
I sigh. trying not to look at Andy who crossed his arms smartly. "Actually no."
"So you'll definitely need our help." Andy mentions, excitedly.
"What I need you guys to do is research." I put my backpack on and leave for the boys to do just that.
I did not expect the whole week before Halloween to become this strange. For the past few days there had been reports of decorations from many houses "coming to life" and attacking strangers. People who have witnessed it have said that they are probably just seeing things, but once more people around the county start to go through the same thing people start to worry. Once there were camera's out to take some evidence in the decorations become objects again. House owners took down their decorations in hopes that nothing will happen.
On top of that something else happened. People started feeling like their dead loved ones were in their presense, or feeling like they were being attacked by them. It only happened where there were graveyards where spirits were easily spotted. Parents still allowed their children to go trick or treating and even schools around the county kept up school events. Ours did.
I arrived at the Halloween Dance, dressed as a black cat. I love cats. The whole gym was dark and was filled with neon vibrant colors flowing along the walls. Many students were dancing to Katy Perry while some others were either standing and talking or getting food or drinks. Luckily for me I managed to find Claire and Harley who were drinking water. "Veronica you're here!" Harley shouted over the loud music wearing her Heromine Granger costume.
"Are you two already tired?" I shouted back.
Claire nods wearing her favorite scientist costume, Einstien. "Yup, they actually have a pretty catchy playlist." She giggles.
"Come join us!" Harley pulled my arm.
"Oh no thanks. I actually have to find someone."
"Awww." Harley groaned with sadness.
"It's fine." Claire says before the song iconic Halloween song Thriller came on.
"Yay! Let's go Claire!" Harley happily drags her as they laugh their way to the dance floor.
I for one just ordered some water and while waiting at the front entrance that surprisingly Andy came in through. After I got my water I rushed to him and asked, "You're not wearing a costume?"
He shakes his head, mindlessly. "No."
"Why? It's Halloween."
"There are some people who are not dressed up." He points out some boys who I even thought might have thought that the social was too childish for them.
"I didn't expect you or them to be here." I say back to him.
He sighs. "Well if this is what it takes for you to change your mind on us helping more then..."
I roll my eyes. "You are never going to stop Huh?"
He shakes his head, confidently. "Nope."
Now I'm really starting to hate him. "Well, let's at least get out of the entrance and relax." I pull him by the arm from the entrance .
"Okay fine, But I actually need to show you what I found." He takes out his phone and shows me some news articles about houses being covered with toilet paper. Many of them say that the kids who live in those neighborhoods swear that they did not do any of the acts.
"Didn't the book say that Anubis can mummify things?" Andy points out.
I scoff. "Yeah, but I thought that it was going to mummify people."
"I think we all thought that." Us two start looking around and notice something off about the people wearing costumes. "Now that you mention it, I don't see people getting the idea of dressing up as mummies?" Andy mentions.
That made me start looking more closely too. "Yeah, but maybe they didn't like the idea of dressing in toilet paper?"
Andy chuckled at the sound of the joke. "Maybe kids younger than us might like the idea?"
