*Third Person Pov*
After everything today and these past few weeks Veronica needed the sleep. In Max's mind at least.
The whole fight between the Dark Man and talking about her family made her exhausted. He didn't say anything and let her drift to sleep. She looked cute in his eyes. Seeing her chest going up and down from her breathing quietly, relaxing and looking calm.
Veronica turned to her left side in her sleep and a bit after that Max went ahead and covered her with her dad's Steeler blanket. After he did he went ahead to cuddle her from behind. He hung his arm over her waist and close enough to her head just to take a scent of her flowery scented hair. Max wished he could stay like this with her forever without having her stupid family, school, or problems with magic interfering.
Max got to lay with her and admiring everything about her physicality and mental strength for what he felt like a half an hour, but ended up being three hours. He didn't even sleep and still didn't think time flew that fast. He didn't notice until he heard a car getting parked in front of her house. He got up and carefully looked out the window unfortunately seeing that her family was back.
To avoid suspicion Max got back on the bed and gently shook Veronica awake and warned her that her family had gotten back from the theater.
Veronica groaned and eventually woke up quickly enough to get back to the living room and Max setting up everything back to a bit of how it was before. Hopefully looking like never ever happened.
*Veronica's Pov*
After stopping the Dark Man I have never wanted to train with Max so bad enough. I don't know how but my mom and Eliana just had to get in a big fight about our mom being a lazy ass and Eliana being a stupid driver. Our mom wanted to go to the Disney store this weekend and have been talking about with Eliana for days. On Sunday she randomly decided on not going and that made Eliana mad. On top of that because of that our mom decided on not getting her food the same day. That made them fight and not speak to each other.
Me, my dad, and Camila get caught in the middle with us having to go back and forth between the two, and sometimes we even get in fights about everything. Our mom is still angry and if we add more fuel to it, there is a possibility that we could just be like Eliana and that is why I want to stay in the school gym training with Max.
Since we have just started this combat training Max had us start slow, with wooden staffs. It was weird at first. When I was training with Jake, I went ahead and trained with the metal and heavy weaponry. From all of that training in the past, it gave me an advantage to beat Max, even though he has 15 years in combat training.
"I thought you wanted to go on hard mode?" Max asks after I got struck on my arm by his staff.
I chuckle even if I was nearly out of breath. "I know. Just getting warmed up."
We started over with me dodging his attacks, and him dodging my own. After a bit I felt my head feeling a bit light headed I guess, I don't really know since I have never felt it before.
I guess I was too focused on my head than dodging Max's attack which made me fall off my feet and on to the gym wooden floor.
I groan as I stand back up. "You okay?" Max asks leaning against the staff.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I say making sure my black stretchy pants weren't ruined.
He sighs. "That's not what I meant, Veronica."
"Then what?" I ask.
"It's just... you've seem off today."
I sigh. "Like I said. I'm fine." That light headedness came back and I guess made me a bit dizzy to the point where I couldn't stand up straight.
"Woah, Woah." Max gasps as he caught me. "I think that's enough for today."
"What?!" I complained. "But we just started to have fun!"
"Yeah, and after two afters of straight training, a break is needed." He helped me get to the first raiser that was still out and gave me my water bottle before sitting down himself.
"What's going on, Veronica?" He asks.
I take a big gulp and say. "Nothing."
"And yet you want to train non stop all of a sudden?" I didn't care how I looked. I knew I looked miserable, and I suspected that Max knew why.
"I know your family isn't in the best shape right now, but you don't have to run from it with training non stop."
I couldn't look at while he lectured. To be honest I was a little afraid of how he was looking at me now. "I know. I have to get home at some point." I stand back up and put on my backpack.
"Aren't we together?" He asks and stunned me when I was starting to head out the door.
I turned back around, feeling hurt. "Of course we are!"
"Then you should know that you can talk to me." Lately Max has been hiting this invisible wall whenever he does say those things to me. It feels so weird and overwhelming.
"I know that Max. It's just..." I couldn't find the words, and if I did I did not think that it would make sense. I never make sense to my family and sometimes my friends. I doubt Max would understand.
"What?" Max asks in a soft tone.
"I never had a chance to talk about my feelings to anyone." My cheeks suddenly felt heated after saying all of that. I never told anyone that either.
"You know better than anyone how my family is when talking about real deep stuff that they think is not a problem. My friends lately have been really busy with school, and I guess some of them are only friends with me for my powers. Why do you think I don't tell anyone this kind of stuff?"
I felt a bit out of breath from ranting and from Max's guilty look I made my point clear.
I then heard a buzzing sound coming from the raisers and found that it was my phone alarming me that my dad texted. He was here to pick me up.
"I have to go." I say, taking one last look at Max. He didn't say anything as I left the gym, but I was getting a feeling that he wanted to.
