I was getting ready in my room to go to dinner with Max. I had missed him since he left after my mom died and I hadn't seen him since. Max really was a great guy and I looked at him being the father I never had around. As I walked down the stairs everyone looked at me.
"Whoa, you look incredible." Clay said and I gave a small smile.
"Yeah well I'm going out." I said and grabbed my small purse from the closet by the door.
"Going out with who?" Clay asked and Jake perked up when I said going out.
"With the guy mom was dating before she died. We ran into each other the other day and he gave me his card. I called and we are meeting up." I said and Clay sighed.
"Would you like someone to go with you?" Jake asked.
"No and I swear to go if someone follows me I will shoot them myself. Let me have my fucking life. I have lived this long without being followed or checked up on." I said walked out the door. Clay and Jake watched me leave from the front window.
"Cougar, Pooch..." Clay said as they headed out the door.
I drove to the restaurant Max suggested we meet at, got out giving my keys to the valet and heading inside. Max was a wealthy guy I knew this but this place was so fancy. Once I walked in the hostess seemed to know who I was before I even gave a name and she directed me to a private table.
"Shane." Max said with a smile seeing me walk up.
"Hey Max, this place is beautiful." I said and he smiled as he pulled my chair out for me and then sat down himself.
"I brought your mom here and couple of times and she loved it." Max said and I smiled.
"Mom always did have somewhat expensive taste." I mumbled and Max just looked at me.
''Not that she was a gold digger. God that sounded horrible. Mom just liked things we always couldn't afford so we go used to pretending and window shopping." I explained and Max huffed a laugh.
"I never minded spoiling your mother Shane or even you." Max said and I smiled. We quickly ordered, I let Max order for me which he ordered my mother's favorite dishes which happened to be mine as well.
"So what's been going on in your life? A new boyfriend?" Max asked and I laughed.
"You knew me long enough to know I don't date." I said and he sighed.
"No one special?" Max asked and I shook my head.
"Nope...well there was a guy...I thought maybe but he isn't interested." I said and Max sighed.
"Well his lose Shane because any guy would be lucky enough to date you and have you on his arm. I mean if you are interested...I might know a guy..." Max said and I shook my head.
"No, please, it's fine. I just don't think being in a relationship is meant to be and I'm fine with that." I said and Max sighed.
"Shane being alone forever is never good. You will find someone who wants to be with you like you want to be with them. I promise you that. I thought that was your mom for me but I never got the chance to go there with her." Max said and I smiled.
"You really loved her didn't you?" I asked and Max nodded.
"I did." Max said and I smiled. Once our food got delivered we ate and just talked about life and work. Once we were finished Max sighed.
"I want to give you something. I bought it for your mom right before the accident so I wasn't able to give it to her. Now it is just sitting in my house and I can't watch it collect dust." Max said and passed a velvet box across the table.
"Max..." I said and he shook his head.
"Please Shane." He said and I opened the box to see a beautiful diamond pendant.

"Max, I can't accept this." I said seeing it was a huge diamond.
"Please accept it Shane. A piece of me and your mother." He said and I nodded. I put it on.
"Thank you so much, it's beautiful." I said and he smiled seeing it on me. I saw the time and sighed. "I really need to go." I said and he nodded as he paid the bill and we walked out to get our cars. I noticed someone was picking Max up.
"Still don't drive?" I asked and he laughed.
"I drive but when you have business to attend to while driving, its better to have someone behind the wheel." Max said and I nodded as and gave a small laugh. Max and I hugged and he looked at the necklace as we pulled back from each other.
"Looks amazing on you. Let's keep in touch okay?" He asked and I nodded.
"Of course." I said and he smiled getting in his car and driving away. I got in my car once he was brought to me and I drove one. Once I got home I walked in, saw Clay and Jake sitting on the couch going over some stuff on the computer and they looked at me.
"Have a nice dinner?" Clay asked and I looked at him.
"I never said I was going to dinner, just out. How did you know I went to dinner?" I asked. They looked at each other. I heard a van pull up outside as Pooch and Cougar got out. I opened the front door and let them in, they looked shocked to see me.
"I said no one should follow me! God I just cant do this anymore! I'm going to stay with Ariel!" I said rushing upstairs to pack a bag.
