I was sitting at my dining room table cleaning up some cuts on my dad's face and the gunshot wound in his arm.

"So, you want to explain all of this to me or are you still trying to keep me out of this and safe?" I asked and Clay sighed.

"Come on Shane, you know that answer." Clay said and I sighed.

"Right just having the daughter who is a home health aide nurse just always comes in handy for you. You leaving again after I patch you up?" I ask and he sighed.

"Shane..." Clay groaned.

"No dad! I had a feeling you were dead! I know some shit just went down. I mean obviously..." I said gesturing to his wounds. "But I thought you were dead! I had a feeling and I don't like my feelings!" I said upset. Clay sighed and pulled me into a hug as I tried to fight off tears.

"Hey, hey, calm down." Clay said in a soothing voice and I sighed in his chest.

"I just have been thinking about you a lot lately. I was worried. I mean if you were to die, how would I ever know? You keep me out here in the suburbs working as a home health aide since I'm not allowed to work at a major hospital because it's too dangerous and out in the open. How would I know?" I asked and Clay sighed.

"I have some people I trust that would come and tell you." Clay said.

"Who Roque?" I asked and Clay growled.

"Not Roque...?" I asked.

"Roque was a traitor and Roque is dead." Clay said and I sat back in shock.

"Woah..." I said. Roque was the only person I knew who my dad worked with and I always thought I could trust Roque.

"Okay so if something is going to happen to you how am I going to know? Who do I trust?" I asked and Clay sighed.

"Pooch, you can trust Pooch." Clay said.

"Pooch...the man I can trust is named Pooch..." I said and tried to hide my laugh.

"Hey, don't laugh he is a good guy." Clay said and I nodded. I finished working on his face and then I rip the sleeve of his shirt and he just looked at me.

"Excuse you!" Clay said and I just looked at him.

"You want this stitched up or not?" I asked and he sighed as I started getting the needle and thread ready. "You wanna be numb or not?" I asked being funny and Clay groaned.

"My kid has jokes." Clay said as I gave him a numbing shot. Once he was numb, I cleaned the wound and made sure the bullet wasn't in the hole and then closed him up. Once we were done, I was throwing everything away when my cellphone rang. I sighed and answered it.

"Hello?" I asked putting it on speaker phone.

"Hey, we are just calling to check on you." I heard Ariel asked and I looked my dad and he nodded knowing to be quiet.

"I'm fine. I took Ace to the dog park and we had a good time and then I came home." I said and I heard them both sigh.

"Are you still on the road? I mean you didn't leave that long ago." I said.

"Yeah, we have about another hour. Still wish you would have come." Callie said. Clay looked at me and shook my head.

"Next time, I promise. Right now isn't a good time and I just wanted to be home." I said and looked at my dad.

"Okay well just try and get out and enjoy life okay? Don't be the stick in the mud you usually are. All work and no play make Shane a dule girl." Ariel taunted and we all laughed.

"Yeah, yeah. You don't know the kind of fun I have when you girls aren't around." I said. Clay looked at me with raised eyebrows.

"Wow...okay, I don't want to know." Callie said.

"I do!" Ariel said and I laughed.

"Goodbye ladies." I said and hung up. Clay looked at me.

"You turned down going on a trip with your friends to stay home alone?" Clay asked and I sighed.

"Yeah, I told you I had a feeling. Thank god a did since you just wanted to show up." I said and Clay shook his head.

"Shane, are you living your life? Are you getting out?" Clay asked and.

"Yes, I get out." I said.

"Dating?" Clay asked and I groaned.

"Tried it, not interested." I said and Clay huffed a laugh.

"Why?" Clay asked and I sighed.

"Not important. You hungry?" I asked as I deferred the question and walked into the kitchen.

"Shane, it is important." Clay followed.

"No, it's really not." I said and he groaned.

"Shane..." Clay said.

"It's hard okay! I don't know who I can trust and who I can't. I mean what if someone found out about me and then was just using me to get info on you! What am I supposed to do then? Yeah, I know hand to hand combat, yeah I can shoot a gun but that doesn't do me any good if I'm with someone who I think I can trust when I date them." I said and Clay sighed looking at the ground. "See this is why I didn't want to say anything." I said in a small voice feeling like a complete ass.

"I'm sorry about this Shane." Clay said and I groaned. I walked up and hugged my dad.

"I don't care. I'm happy with me and Ace honestly. I don't want the boyfriend, husband, family, kids life. I just want you alive." I said and he groaned as he hugged me back.

"I know kiddo." Clay said.

"So, I will have no grandchildren?" Clay asked and I roll my eyes.

"Big, bad, mean Colonel Clay want grandkids?" I asked and he chuckled.

"I always thought it was a chance. I mean you are my only heir." Clay said.

"That you know of." I mumbled as we broke apart.

"Hey! That's unfair." Clay said and I sighed.

"I know, I'm sorry." I said and he shook his head.

"Listen, can we just discuss dinner and drop the subject?" I asked and Clay nodded.

"What's for dinner?" Clay asked.
