Chapter 1 - Recognisable
Dave
"I basically filled his room with balloons," I said.
"You what!?" Jay exclaimed.
"I filled his room with balloons," I repeated.
Everyone was now overly concerned at this point. I laughed.
"Don't worry, I'm sure he'll have fun popping them!"
We continued walking down the road through the bright morning sun. Alfred yawned, I suppose he was still quite tired from the events of last night. But I was full of energy! I honestly didn't understand how someone could be so gloomy waking up to a new day, there was always so much to look forward to!
I looked up to the white fluffy clouds above me, and for some reason I wondered what they'd taste like. They looked like candyfloss, but I doubted it tasted like that. I mean, wasn't there this whole water cycle thing where clouds are apparently made from evaporated water? I supposed they tasted like water then.
I then looked at the sunlight raining down on us. I remembered from somewhere that the Sun is actually a really, really big star that burns hydrogen to keep itself alight.
There was so much to see, do and discover!
And I continued to remember about things I didn't even know I used to know, see things I hadn't seen before, but then, I saw an orange and blue sign.
Jay
"Guys, guys! I found the overground train station for The Bend!" Dave said. "We're going the right way!"
"You're finally learning to be vigilant, Dave," Matilda congratulated him, ruffling his hair a little. "I suppose we'll be home a few hours or so from now."
"Wait... A few hours...?" I asked.
A few hours before our journey had to end?
"Right..." Dave sighed. "By any chance... Can we extend our trip? I mean we've got the direction... We're not really lost anymore..."
"You know what, you've got a good point Dave! We aren't lost anymore! Let's do something before our journey comes to an end!" Matilda shouted.
I had never really thought about this journey coming to an end before. Reality was staring me in the face like an eagle. We were bound to get back home. It wasn't a bad thing, I mean, that was kind of our whole goal, but... I really did want to spend more time with my friends. Go on a journey across the ravaged lands, like something out of a fantasy. Well, not too fantastical, mind, I don't want to run into things like fire breathing dragons.
"So, what do we do?" Alfred asked.
"Let's have a sit down, and maybe have some lunch. It's 12pm or so anyway," Matilda said, checking the time with the 'Human Sundial' strategy.
"SANDWICHES!!!" Dave shouted.
"Alright calm down,'' Matilda said. "There's a park nearby, we can sit down there."
So we walked to the park, through the light autumn breeze. The sun was still shining down on us, a large fiery sphere of light. But as I entered the park, I realised that we have always somehow been able to find a park whenever we needed a rest. Coincidence, perhaps?
As I pondered, Matilda began to get some supplies from her bag and placed them on a picnic table. Before you ask, the bread was in one of those plastic things you get them in and all the rest of the stuff was packaged in their own way, so no, they were not laid bare onto that table. We all sat down around it, and we began to make our own sandwiches.
