Chapter 1 - Get Hopes Back High!

Alfred

I loved museums. So much to see, so much to do...

But most of all, I loved space. Space is a broad expanse, and they do amazing replicating this in museums. The surroundings are dark and mysterious, but the glowing lights of the model planets and constellations put out that darkness, just like the ones in the night sky.

I also loved dinosaurs. Just looking at those towering, intimidating and menacing creatures that once roamed the Earth years and years ago, through air, land and sea...

Well, if I must say, school made museums generally boring, because there's always tasks you have to do. School just never ceases to amaze me on how it can make everything boring.

As we came to the entrance, we met the security guard, who was named Mark, I saw by the label on his shirt. Matilda paid Mark the entrance fee as Mark began to munch on a sandwich. Dave began to look at him longingly, and Mark took out another sandwich and decided to give it to Dave, which he was most certainly grateful for. Dave was still nibbling on his sandwich when Matilda asked, "Which exhibit first?"

I let the others decide, I wanted to see something new for a change, and besides, it'd be nice to know their general preferences.

"ROCKS!" they shouted in happy unison.

Rock exhibits. Well, I hadn't been around to one of those before, so I was intrigued.

"What do you think Alfred?" Matilda asked.

"Sure, let's go!" I said, enthusiastically.

We walked over to the rocks exhibition. Jay and Dave looked awestruck at the shiny jewels.

"They're so... SHINY!!!" Jay shouted, his eyes twinkling like diamonds.

"YAY SHINY!!!" Dave shouted.

We looked around the exhibit, the rocks encased in glass boxes. All sorts of rock were held here, igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary.

Igneous created from the magma in volcanoes,

Sedimentary made from sediment in rivers, as the name implies,

And metamorphic, rocks that have undergone masses of pressure and rocket high temperatures.

I guess I've just given you some science on rocks there!

I watched in awe as the setting sun's rays reflected off some of the crystals that were around, and as their colours enveloped the room.

"It's beautiful..." I said.

"It really is... " Matilda said.

"Yeah! It's great! Rainbows everywhere!" Jay shouted.

"RAINBOWS!" Dave said, echoing Jay.

Speaking of rainbows, rainbows are created when the sun's rays pass through water droplets, hence a rainbow comes out when it is both sunny and rainy at the same time. This is because when white light is shone through a prism, it refracts, and then becomes a spectrum, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The rain acts as the prism, and the sun's light is the white light.

In addition, rainbows are a symbolism of hope to many, as they are usually seen after a thunderstorm when it seems like a dark time. Then a rainbow comes up, and spreads its light upon the world. It sorta signifies a new beginning, turning over a new leaf, so to speak, and hope is associated with this. Well, I hope that we have some hope left in us...
