Day 6 - Wednesday, School Day

Chapter 1 - Where?

I woke up. I checked the time, and it was apparently 6:30am. I stretched a little and walked around a bit. I needed to get my legs moving. Last night, Dave had put the bag of money (from the show we did) safely in his backpack, so I assumed it was there. But there was one thing missing.

Where was Dave?

Matilda and Alfred were still here, but where had he gone off to? I wasn't too worried, Dave always got up really early. He could've gone on a little stroll. Or something... I thought for a bit. He couldn't have been kidnapped could he? No. If he was, then wouldn't we have been taken along with him? Where could he be? I got out of the gazebo. Hopefully Dave hadn't gotten himself lost... I got more worried by this, this was a plausible explanation. Dave could easily get himself lost. Well, he couldn't have gotten too far. He wouldn't be that irresponsible, right? Questions whirling about in my mind, I continued on. I really didn't want to drag Alfred or Matilda into this yet, so I didn't wake them up. I was sure he was safe. I walked around the perimeter of the park. Nothing. Maybe near the centre? I walked back towards the middle. But as I walked, I saw a small river. I looked along the banks. But I saw something peculiar at the right embankment.

Were those bubbles?

Chapter 2 - What?

Confused, yet curious, I cautiously made my way to where the bubbles were coming from. And obviously, there was someone blowing the bubbles. I sat down beside him. I looked towards him.

"Dave?" I asked.

No response.

"Dave, is that you?" I asked, again.

He looked towards me.

"Hello, Jay," Dave replied, solemnly.

What was wrong with Dave? He seemed so serious and sad. I looked into his eyes, which were now a dark, dull brown.

"Is everything alright, Dave?" I asked, very much worried.

He closed his eyes for just longer than a blink.

"Don't worry Jay, I'm alright," Dave replied.

He smiled at me but then, I noticed a change.

"Did your eyes just change colour...?" I asked.

He looked a little confused for a bit. But I knew they had just changed. They were now a bright blue, just like they were before. There was an awkward silence between us as Dave continued to blow bubbles.

"Dave, are you sure you're alright?" I asked again.

"I'm fine, Jay," Dave replied.

His eyes were dark brown again. I decided not to continuously pester him over the same thing, and so I said, "Why are you here? What exactly are you doing here?"

"I used to do this with my Dad," Dave replied. "Well, before he got too busy to care about me anymore..."

"I've been there," I murmured.

"And for your other question, I don't really know why I'm doing this, but doing this seems to almost 'empower' me," Dave explained.

Empower? What did he mean by that? How does blowing bubbles by a stream empower someone? I mean, it's definitely a beautiful sight, it does relax you, but I don't think empower was really the right word...

"What do you mean by empower?" I questioned, still trying to process what it could mean.

"Well, I guess I'd better tell you my story," Dave said.

His eyes turned blue again as he smiled, and began.

Chapter 3 - Dave's Story

"Well, I'm different. I don't know why, I don't know how, but I just am. I don't even know how I even managed to find this out, as a matter of fact. But for some reason I have powers! I can make explosions of light when people I care about are in danger, I can make orbs out of light and I can heal people as well! But, then again, every action has its consequences, so it kinda hurts me whenever I do it. And well, I have no idea why my eyes change colour to answer your question. Maybe it has something to do with my emotions, I don't know."

I simply stared in disbelief. It all seemed like something from a fairytale or something. But I knew that Dave wouldn't just lie to me. Surely he wouldn't?

"I guess you don't believe me then," Dave said, breaking the silence.

I gave him a bit of an awkward look.

"Watch," he said. "Maybe for your sake, this might work."

Chapter 4 - The Proof Is In The Pudding

He narrowed his eyes a little, and I could just about notice his eyes becoming a slightly brighter blue. Suddenly, a seemingly intangible orb appeared in his right hand. It began to glow blue, with light circling around it. I shuffled back a little. This looked serious. He then threw the orb into the river. Dave flinched. For a second, I thought nothing would happen, but then the river began to shine, almost as brightly as the Northern Lights. As I looked down the bank, columns of light began to emerge from the river's surface. After a few minutes went by, the light dissipated, and the river turned back to its original state.

"What did you think?" Dave asked, a broad smile on his face.

"Amazing! That was great!" I exclaimed.

"I knew you'd like it!" Dave replied. "I can only do these sorts of things if it's for someone else, mainly someone who I care about. So, Jay, I guess you're one of those people. Well there was no doubt in the beginning that we were friends anyway, I guess we knew that already!" Dave shouted.

"Yes, of course I knew," I replied.

He smiled at me, and his eyes turned bright blue. And with that, we returned to the gazebo.
