Run, Rabbit Run

I sat on my bed looking out the window of an abandoned cottage that I was staying in. I was currently on the run after my village raided my house and found all my supplies and strange plants I was growing. They sentenced me to death by hanging and obviously that's a horrible way to go so I fled and I ran for miles before finding a secluded cottage in the woods. I fixed it up and made it home.

I had gotten up early to feed my horse Dusk. He was a big horse who was all black but had white fur right before his hoofs. I had used him to flee my old village and I used him to take me to the next city over for supplies and food.

I changed into a black dress that went to my ankles and a black cloak to hide my face so no one in that city could see who I was. Sure I ran away from my old village but that was easy because that was only the towns people after me however this city had a royal guard and a very good reputation of getting runaway felons.

I grabbed two carrots and an apple from the kitchen then grabbed the saddle from by the front door so I could ready up Dusk. I walked to the small stable that was here along with the house. I opened the gate and pet Dusk's head and gave him the food along with getting him ready with the saddle. I ran back into the house to grab a small messenger bag to help me with carrying the food and I set off with Dusk.

As I reached the gateway to the city I hopped off Dusk and held onto his lead and I walked into the town. There were people everywhere with a bunch of different things like carts and other horses so me and Dusk didn't stand out to much. The town was loud and was erupting with life as I walked down the dirt road that changed into a cobblestone one the nicer the area got (aka closer to the palace.) There were little carts that people used to put their goods into to sell. There were parents who stood by their cart and you could see their children running around playing with each other. I smiled as I looked at them.

I continued walking until I reached a man who was selling eggs and to the cart next to him was a man selling bread. I approached the egg cart first and smiled at the man with my hood still covering my eyes.

"Well that's a big horse you got there! What can I get for you young lady?" The man was short and heavy and his clothes were all worn out. He had a gruff voice and it was clear he had only just woken up.

"I only need half a dozen eggs, if that's alright with you?" I smiled at the man.

"Not a problem- Lincoln let go!" The man shook his leg and I peeked behind the cart to see a little boy just about seven grabbing his dad's pants. Lincoln looked up at me with a look of terror on his face.

"Dad that horse is scary." I heard the boy whimper.

"The horse will be gone soon if you let this lady pay for her food." He spoke through gritted teeth down at his son. I took this opportunity to take the half dozen eggs as he was occupied by his son. He then looked back up at me and flashed a quick smile to act like nothing happened. "Sorry bout that, he's not a fan of horses." He let out a small chuckle.

"I understand. How much for the eggs?" I asked.

"Uh bout three dollars." He then handed me another six eggs without the knowledge of me already taking six eggs. I smiled as I put them in my bag along with the others I had just taken. I went into a smaller pocket and took out three silver coins and handed it to the man.

"Thank you." I smiled and waved to the little boy who was still sat on the ground and then moved to the cart to the left of me.

"What can I help you with today miss?" This man was younger then the guy before by about ten fifteen years. He had short black hair and bright blue eyes that looked like it would hurt if you looked at them for to long. I scanned over the cart to see a bunch of different pastries and bread that looked fresh out the oven.

"You have a lot of options." I giggled.

"Just for you." He flirted putting his foot up on the wheel.

"I'm honored." I smiled as I put my hand on my chest. "I'll just take this loaf of bread." I took the bread from the cart. "How much?"

"Does it have to be money?" He smirked at me.

"Well what else are you looking for-"
I didn't get to finish my sentence before royal guards with horses only a bit smaller the Dusk came stampeding in. They all had silver masks on with a cut out in there face so you could see their mouths but their skin was painted black.

With all the ruckus and some people running back into their homes I shoved the loaf into my bag and walked away from the baker in hopes of getting out of the town as everyone tried to leave.

"We have an announcement!" The head guard called to the crowd. Everyone stopped dead in there tracks.

"Fuck." I cursed under my breath stopping and facing the guards so I didn't look suspicious. Everyone went quiet as we waited for them to talk.

"The heir to the throne has gone missing!" He yelled out and the crowd had begun whispering to each other about what was happening. The crowd paused again when he yelled back into the crowd. "If anyone finds him contact us immediately and tell us where you found him! He needs to be brought back home!" With that little hurrah everyone went back to talking about what was happening and I got on Dusk and rode out of the kingdom.

I made it back to my cottage and put Dusk back in the stable and went inside to change into better clothing so I could start planting new seeds and digging up my other crops.

I walked inside and put my cloak on a hanger on my door and walked into the living area to see a man standing there with a royal ghoul mask just looking at some of the plants that I had hanging. I froze.

Is this the prince? In my house?!

"Um can I help you?" I asked a little scared of what the outcome of this could be. The man jumped in place and he turned around to face me.

"Oh I- I'm sorry I didn't know anyone lived here." He stuttered scarred as well.

"What's your name?" I asked praying to whatever god would listen that it wasn't the prince.

"Tell me yours." He stated doing a complete 180 of how he was talking before.

"I'm afraid I can't give you that information." I told him truthfully trying to sound less scared.

"Then I won't tell you mine." He crossed his arms.

"Is it Swiss?" I asked feeling like I was getting somewhere.

"H- how did you know?" His voice cracked.

"I was just in town and they said you were missing and not only did your mask give it away but so did your attitude." I spoke more confidently.

"What's wrong with my attitude?!" He asked sounding annoyed.

"Well I found you in my house and you were still rude." I crossed my arms.

"Why do you live here anyway? It's to small." He snarled.

"My apologies your highness but not everyone has the money to afford luxury like you can."

"Don't call me that. I left for a reason. Why do you live here and not with the towns people? What are you a witch or something?" He sounded like a child.  I froze at hearing those words.  "Oh my Satanas you are." He whispered in disbelief.

"You can't tell anyone though because you're on the run and they'll find you." I had him trapped in a corner.

   "Shit you're right." He grumbled.

"I'll make a deal with you." I began and he looked at me but I couldn't really tell what he was thinking because he was on the other side of the room and his mask blocked most of his face. "I'll let you stay here if you help me out with chores and I won't turn you in." I told him. He thought for a second then spoke up.

   "Deal."
