"So what brings you guys here?" I asked the men in front of me.
"Swiss missed you." Aether stated, slapping his friend on the shoulder playfully. "I came along for the ride."
"It's true I did." Swiss smiled. "Anything interesting happen while I was gone?"
"Nope, life has been boring as ever." I shrugged. "Though I did meet your sister."
"Sunshine?!" Swiss asked with full confusion.
"Yeah,"
"How?"
"I was getting water then ran into her."
"What did she say?" He sounded very intrigued by this.
"Not much, but she thinks my name is Phoebe." I smiled in amusement.
"It was right for you to lie." Aether then stated causing me as Swiss to turn our heads to him. "She heard that Swiss stayed with a witch and wasn't too impressed with him." Swiss licked his lips at this.
"And she heard your name."
"She said she didn't remember it. She did however mention that you haven't been acting the same as you normally do." I said and Aether let out a small huff as if he were laughing and Swiss just glared at him.
"Marriage is hard. Especially when you hate the person you're married to." He grumbled the last part which caused a part of me to shatter, though hearing him say that he hates his wife made my heart swell at the fact that I might have a chance. It was like a guilty pleasure having a liking to him, I just couldn't help it.
"I would say I understand but I don't, I'm sure you'll get used to it."
"Doubt it." He muttered, looking back at the newly named fox.
"Are you guys hungry?" I asked to quickly change the subject.
"If it's not to much trouble." Aether responded.
"Of course not, I don't have much, just jam and bread."
"Sounds perfect." He smiled brightly. I then turned to Swiss.
"Would you like some?"
"Yes, please." It came off a bit desperate but he tried not to show it.
"Here, you two sit." I instructed, pointing at the couch.
"Do you want help?" Aether offered with a tilt of his head. I was about to speak but Swiss did it for me.
"Oh, she'll be fine." He reassured the man who was now sitting on the couch with Oráiste. Aether then gave a questioning look as I sat on the couch then having the plates of toast and jam fall lightly into their hands.
"I- I forgot witches could do this stuff." He chuckled with astonishment.
"I know! Isn't it so cool!" Praised Swiss, taking a bite of the bread. "This is really good, thank you." His mouth was full of food.
"Anytime." I smiled as I felt my heart flutter. A few seconds of silence went by only being filled by the sounds of chewing which I wasn't the biggest fan of but wasn't gonna complain. "Anything interesting happened with you two?"
"No, I mean my father is sick that's about all." I cringed at Swiss's words.
"Is he alright?" My voice full of concern, though I didn't mean it as much as it sounded.
"No idea, but if worse comes to worse my mother will take over until she feels it's my time." He just shrugged. He must really not like his father if he's so calm about this. I couldn't imagine what that was like.
"You know, I'm making a healing potion if you want it." I had to act like I wasn't already gonna do that for him.
"Don't waste your time."
"Are you sure? It's not a problem-"
"Please don't." He came off a little aggressively but I couldn't blame him. I only nodded.
"What about you?" I turned to Aether, to which he just shrugged.
"Not much, just hanging around recently. This guy-" He pointed his thumb at Swiss. "Has been to busy for me and the rest of us."
"How is everyone else?" I asked with a hum.
"Good, good." Aether nodded. "Mountain was gonna join us but his horse was sick." He said and I let out a small pout at this.
"Well hopefully he can come next time."
"Hopefully."
They stayed here for a little bit longer before saying they had to go. I walked them out to the tree that they were tied to. They were both laying down.
"Hopefully I'll see you guys soon." I smiled at the men as the sat in their saddles.
"Definitely." Aether smiled under his mask.
"Very soon, darling." Swiss stuck his hand out and grabbed my face like he did all those weeks ago in the dungeons. My face flushed.
"Be safe." I breathed walking away from them with a wave. They flicked their arms and went into the direction of the castle. I let out a sad sigh and felt my heart go to my throat as I watched them both leave.
I went inside to see Oráiste curled up by the fire, peacefully sleeping. I then walked into my room to sleep with the thoughts of what just happened in the past couple hours flood my brain before dosing off.
