Im a Nervous Wreck

"Wait!" I perked up and went over to the wolf. "Can I have my knife." I called over to Swiss. He then walked over to me and handed it to me.

"What are you doing?" He looked down at me as I knelt to the ground, flipping the animal over so it was in its back.

"I need it's organs."

"Why?" He asked and I could sense the look on his face.

"A potion." To save your father.

"That's what you came out here for?" He looked down at me cutting the animals gut. Red blood seeped out as my knife ran along the fur cutting an almost perfect square.

  "Yup."

  "It couldn't wait until morning?"

"I wasn't tired and I needed something to do." I explained to the king to be.

"Can't you read?" He asked sounding more relaxed. He even laughed a bit.

"I've finished all my books. It's not like I could go into town to get more." I shrugged and I put the organs  and knife in my bag and closed it up. It's not like I could tell him about the whole library under my house right now. I looked up at him and saw him frown. He looked completely stiff but also limp at the same time.

"Im sorry." He muttered, holding his right arm while looking down.

"It's not your fa-"

"It is though! I should've never met you!" He cried out with a yell. I felt tears form in my eyes at his words. I knew he didn't mean it maliciously but it still hurt nonetheless. "It was selfish of me to come into your life and ruin it." He stepped closer and quieted his voice.

"You didn't ruin it, Swiss. I'm fine." My voice broke and a chill went down my spine.

"You don't sound it." Aether stated warmly, walking over to us. I looked over at him with my vision blurred. The lump in my throat started to form and it hurt to all hell as I tried to hold in a sob.

"L-let's just go. I have the fire going at home." I mumbled out and my voice cracked. Swiss nodded then walked over to his horse and motioned me to get on. I hopped on then he got on behind me and we headed to the cottage. Swiss and I in the front and Aether behind.

My back was pressed into Swiss's chest and for the first time in a while I felt at ease. I forgot what it felt like since it had been so long since I haven't been in constant fear. I let my body go limp as his arms encased my body as he held the lead.

We rode in complete silence, and while I didn't know what he was thinking about all I could do is let the past day sink into me. The feeling of all of it made my eyes droop.

I hadn't even realized I fell asleep but Swiss was lightly shaking me up.

"Come on darling, wake up." He whispered rubbing my arm softly. My eyes fluttered open and saw the cottage with a dim light illuminating out the windows from the fire inside. On the window closest to the door I saw my fox lying down, curled into itself. The guilt was seeping back into me as I realized how stupid I was for going out at night.

I almost left these animals to fend for themselves. I shook at the thought as Swiss helped me off his horse. Not a word was spoken as they both took a lead and tied it to a tree.

I opened the door for them as the walked over. Aether gave a nodded thank you and Swiss gave his signature smile as they passed through.

Aether turned his head looking around the room the turned to face me and Swiss.

"This is where you stayed for three/ four months?" Aether questioned the prince. Swiss nodded. "It's really nice." He then complement, looking at me.

"Thank you." I said looking at the man, his ghoul mask casting a reflection from the fire. The memories of Terzo and what he had told me in the library flooded my brain.

Are they ghouls? Is that why they don't take their masks off? Or do they wear them to seem more threatening and keep anonymity? Questions like these swarmed my brain as I focused on Aether. I mean it would make sense if they were. Everyday people don't have these types of names. Unless maybe these aren't their real names.

The fox brushing up against my leg broke me out of these thoughts. I looked down and smiled at him.

"Who's this little fella?" Swiss asked crouching down to see the fox.

"A fox that I have taken in." I replied to him.

"Does he have a name?" Swiss spoke as he petted his head.

"I haven't been able to think of one. So if you guys have any suggestions."

"Name him after me!" Swiss laughed looking up at me.

"That's the last name I would give him!" I fake scoffed.

"What about Oráiste?" Aether piped up. I felt my ears perk up at the name.

"Oráiste." I whisper to myself. "I really like it." I smiled at Aether. I then looked down at the fox, who was rubbing against Swiss's hand.

"I think it suits him." Swiss smiled still not looking up at us. He was still petting the fox but this time just sat on the floor instead of crouching down.

"Why, because he's orange?" I let out a huff of amusement.

"Yup." He giggled a bit and my heart fluttered. I knew it was wrong for me to feel this way, especially because he was married, but something inside of me couldn't stop myself. It pained me that he was married to someone he didn't love but on the other hand maybe he had learned to love her and I think that's what made me feel so much worse.
