brielle was nervous because she didn't have a thought-out plan. obviously, the main idea was to get him back, but she didn't know how. what could she say to make the situation better? what could she say to make him listen?
she had spent the entire drive so far trying to figure out how to get her words out in a way that made sense. she was afraid that when she was finally face to face with chris, she would forget everything she wanted to say and just make a mess of everything.
the way she felt she always did.
brielle was thinking of things going absolutely south. her and chris would break up and their friend group would become awkward. chris would move on to a pretty la girl and forget she ever existed.
she didn't want it to happen and she couldn't let that happen. chris belonged with her and no one else.
considering all this, brielle started to put her foot on the gas.
every second she spent driving was another second where chris was hating her. where chris thought she cheated on him. she was so frustrated.
frustrated with herself and frustrated with the situation. why couldn't she have just told chris right before it? why'd she wait? why did chris have to try and surprise her at that exact second? their entire relationship was resting on fine margins.
turns out, it was resting on very fine margins.
brielle made it to madi's house where chris, nick, and matt were staying. it looked very different from their boston home and she wondered if she was welcome there.
madi's mom didn't really know her well so she could send her away if chris told her what happened. even if she did let her in, would chris want to let her in?
brielle walked the unfamiliar route up to their front door and raised her finger to the doorbell. right before she went to press it, she brought her hand back down to her side. should she be here right now?
chris was ignoring her for a reason. he didn't want to talk to her over the phone so why would he want to talk to her in real life? she could've driven all this way just for chris to refuse to talk to her.
brielle pursed her lips and raised her hand once more before pressing the doorbell. this was it. there was no going back now.
after a few moments of agonizing silence, the door swung open and she was met by the face of nick. he looked shocked to see her, but still gave her a smile nonetheless.
"is chris here?" brielle questioned in a nervous tone as she toyed with her car keys in her hand. nick gave brielle a sad smile.
"sorry, no," nick replied as he noticed brielle wearing chris hoodie. "he left like two hours ago."
brielle's confidence she had spent the entire car ride building immediately vanished. maybe this was a sign that her and chris just weren't meant to be.
"any idea where he might've gone?" brielle didn't want to take the sign though. she just had to try.
"not far considering he was on feet." nick gave brielle a good look. she looked as much of a mess as chris and he could tell briellle was just as upset about the whole thing too. he was obviously team chris, but he felt for the girls. "he might've gone to the tennis court in the neighborhood. it's like a five-minute walk."
brielle's eyes lit up. she passed by the sign for it on the way there and the thought of being that close to chris excited her. even if she still didn't know what she was going to say. nick on the other hand, still had some more questions to ask.
"but before i let you go. you know what i'm going to ask." nick turned around to check if anyone was listening to the conversation. he didn't see anyone, but he still stepped out of the house and closed to door behind him to be safe. "nothing happened between you and that guy right?"
