Din was sitting in the spare room of the Slave I. He had been for days, since Grogu had been taken in by Luke Skywalker. You'd tried to give him his space, let him grieve, but you were too.

You had put on a smile for Boba and Fennec, you had kept yourself busy with cleaning and making fancy meals with the rations that you had, anything to avoid confronting that heartache.

You'd check in on Din when you could, or drop off meals when needed, but he never came out.

It had been a week, and you knew that this wasn't healthy. For either of you. So deciding to take the initiative, you went in.

Knocking on the door, you slowly opened it, seeing a hunched figure in the dark. You sighed softly and turned on the dim lights, and saw him wince from the sudden brightness. "Hey." You spoke softly. He only nodded, and you saw now that he didn't have his helmet on, it was on the nightstand along with the rest of his armor, leaving him in a gray long-sleeved shirt and trousers. His face was turned away, he didn't move, even when you were right beside him. "Din, look at me." You whispered. He didn't.

You sat beside him and brought up a gentle hand, resting it on his shoulder. He tensed, but quickly melted into the touch. You repeated his name, and finally he turned to you with his head hung low, messy brown hair hiding his eyes. You cupped his tan cheek and lifted it enough to see his face, and your heart broke just a little more.

His beautiful brown eyes were red and bloodshot, dark bags under them worse than ever. Tears tracked down his flushed cheeks, and his bottom lip trembled. He didn't bother to hide it anymore.

Your own eyes watered at the sight, and you pulled him into a hug, arms wrapped over his shoulders as you stroked his hair. He buried his face in the crook of your neck, clutching the soft fabric of your shirt as a quiet sob left his lips. You held him tighter, uneven breaths leaving your lungs as you were on the edge of losing your composure.

"I- I miss him." He croaked. "I miss him so much." And that composure broke. Tears slipped past your eyelids and you nodded into his shirt.

"Me too, love. I miss him too." You whispered.

"I should have done more, b-been more..." You pulled back so suddenly he gasped, eyes wide as he met yours. Your face was firm but gentle, tears still racing down your face.

"Din you did everything you could have ever done." You reassured. "You took care of him, protected him, and loved him to the best of your ability. You brought him back to his people." Your voice broke. "And he loved- no, loves you. He loves you so much. I could see it, you inspired him. And one day we'll see him again." You promised, bringing your foreheads together, never taking your eyes off him. "You were everything to him, Din."

More tears filled his eyes, but this time he was smiling and he looked at you full of awe and love. "He loves you too." He rasped. You smiled at each other and closed your eyes, soaking in the comfort of the others presence. You felt safe for the first time in a long time, you speak and act however you wanted, as could he. You'd be there for each other no matter what, through thick and thin.

"These are gonna be hard times Din, but we'll get through it together." He nodded.

"Together."
