Your leather boots padded against the cobble path almost silently as you weaved through the crowd, making a point to avoid contact. After looking around, you found the fruit vendor you were looking for and made your way over, passing by an alley as you did.
You'd almost passed by when a gnarled hand grabbed your bicep and yanked you into the shadows. You gasped at the sudden touch and made a move to get out when whoever it was shoved you against the solid stone harshly, forcing the air out of your lungs. With watering eyes you struggled to see your attacker until they had come up much too close. Or should you say he.
He was attractive, you'd admit, with a chiseled jaw and freckles like constellations, but his black hair was matted and overgrown, his green eyes were dull and sunken in, and his smile was uncomfortably wide.
You did your best to take deep breaths without inhaling his stench of alcohol and sweat, but to no avail.
"Hey pretty girl." He whispered, his grimy hands trailed up and down your sides deliberately, playing with the buckle of your belt, eyes trailing further down than you would have liked.
When you could breath at least somewhat properly, you brought a knee up in between his legs abruptly, and used the distraction to twist his arm behind him. He yelped, howling curses even you hadn't heard, but pushed on harder. You used your feet to spread his legs so far apart it would hurt, and while one hand held him down, the other gripped a knife from your side.
"It hurts, doesn't it?" You hissed in his ear, trailing the tip of your blade down his neck, a thin line of blood popping up. He tried to nod but you pushed the knife further into his skin, causing him to whimper.
"Y-yes." He gasped.
"Promise me, promise me you will never try anything like that again." You sneered. When he didn't respond right away, you stabbed him a bit harder in the shoulder.
"Promise! I-I promise, I won't...I won't." He was sobbing at this point. You smiled and pulled up, however didn't put the knife away.
"Good." You shoved him towards the end of the alley that led into the road. "Now run along." He nodded frantically and tripped over himself to get away, but you weren't done. Just before he made it out, you brought your arm with the knife back, took a second to aim, and flung it forward, hitting him in the back of the neck. He collapsed immediately.
You let out a shaky breath, and only then did you realize that your hands were shaking, just like the rest of your body. You stumbled back and turned on your heel, rushing into the hustle and bustle of the market, unaware of anyone around you. Unlike before, you didn't care if you bumped into someone, you couldn't tell in this state.
You had just rounded a corner when you hit something cold and hard. There was a faint 'humph' heard after the impact but you were already on your feet again.
Your breathing had picked up considerably, too fast for it to be just because you were running. When had you started running? You could have sworn he was after you again. People were pushing into you, shoving you aside, you feared being trampled. There was shouting. Was it at you? Had someone got in a fight? Your vision was blurry and you slid into the next alleyway you saw, crumpling next to a large crate.
You kicked at the ground until your back hit a wall. If you hid well enough, he couldn't find you. Your hands held you in place, shaking against the ground as unshed tears threatened to fall. Your chest felt as if it was bound by a boa constrictor, any oxygen you had regained quickly left again. You tried to gasp, but a disturbing wheeze was the only result. Silent tears streamed down your cheeks when you could just feel his hands on you.
Every move, swipe, pinch, kiss, he had made, you were feeling again, and it felt awful.
Silent tears streamed down your face as you hugged yourself, choked sobs ripping past your lips even when you had no more air to give. He was still here. He's always here. He'd never leave, no matter how long you thought he was gone.
You were drowning in white noise, senses blacking out, systems weakening. You had to be dying, there was no other explanation. All you could hear was him. See him. Feel him.
Until you didn't.
"Hey.... hey, hey, you're gonna be okay, you're okay." A deep, filtered voice reassured. You could barely hear it, but it was there. More phrases of comforting words were heard in the passing minutes, some comprehendible, some not, but the same message came through nonetheless.
You were okay. You were safe. You weren't alone.
Eventually the saltwater stopped flowing, and the boa loosened its hold on your lungs, but you still hadn't completely recovered. When you blink away the rest of the tears, you were met with a black visor, tilted down slightly probably to better meet your eyes. You swallowed thickly, bringing an unsteady hand up to wipe away at your face, doing your best to take deep breaths.
"Right, that's it. You're doing good." The man said. Or, Mandalorian. You nodded and looked back to him, wobbly smile dancing on your lips.
"T...thank you." You managed out after a couple of seconds. The man was crouched in front of you, about a foot away. He hadn't tried to touch you, which you were grateful for, only brought you back by talking. He only nodded, tilting his head as you adjusted to a more comfortable position.
"Are you alright?" He asked after a moment. You hesitated, going through your current state. You weren't shaking, or crying, you could breath decently again and you felt a blanket of safety with the man's presence. That's pretty alright.
"Yeah, I'm good." You smiled. There was another moment of silence. Comfortable silence, one you relished. Slowly he held out his gloved hand, and you took a moment to grasp it. He helped you back up to your feet, holding on to your hand for a moment longer than necessary, but you didn't find yourself minding this time.
"Can I walk you back to your ship? I wouldn't want anything else happening." He offered, taking a step back. You smiled and nodded, an indescribable trust taking over your instincts. As you walked, a solace silence washed over the two of you, unless you asked the occasional question.
All too soon, you made it back to your ship, both reluctant to leave the other for unknown reasons your heart kept from you.
"Can I...give you my com number?" You asked nervously. He nodded and took out his com as you added yourself to his contacts. Once done, he looked at it, then back to you.
"Well, it was nice meeting you Y/n." You grinned as he said your name, giving a salute as you started to walk away.
"See you around Mando."
And you went your separate ways.
For now.
