Nevarro. He was on Nevarro.
Ever since your leave for the military, you had called Mando - or vise versa - whenever you could. You had forged an unbreakable bond ever since he'd claimed you as his foundling when you were ten. You hadn't exactly followed the way of the Mandalor, but he had respected your decision to reject the creed and go into the international army forces of the galaxy.
Nevertheless, he had taught you the ways of his culture, if not to follow it, then to better understand it, to respect it. He taught you the importance of the creed, of his traditions, and you did everything you could to follow them whenever necessary. He even taught you his language. You spoke it together whenever you could. You found it sounded like home. You suspected he did too.
In his last call, your buir said that he had decided to settle down on Nevarro. He made a deal with the mayor - the former guild master, a guy named Greef - and he was figuring out life not on the run.
He also had another foundling. A small green creature called Grogu. 50 years old but still a toddler to his species, and held the power of the Force. The little guy had caused a lot of trouble, but you could tell Mando thought it was worth it.
You were just glad he hadn't been alone all these years.
You smiled as your ship touched down, the barren expanse of the planet bringing a sense of familiarity to the bases you'd served and planets you'd traveled to together in your childhood.
"Welcome to Nevarro, independent trade anchor and outer rim port. Please state the purpose of your visit."
The automatic voice startled you slightly, but you responded quickly.
"I'm here to see my father."
Maker, you hadn't seen Mando in the flesh since you were eighteen and enlisted in the militaries ranks. Now, twenty-two, you finally got to see your buir again.
And he didn't have a clue.
Swinging your bag over your shoulder, you pulled up the scarf to your mouth to protect you from the harsh winds in the area before leaving your ship. The humidity quickly hit you however, making sweat soak through your shirt. You unbuttoned and shrugged off the top half of your uniform and tied the sleeves around your waist, leaving you in a thinner undershirt. Now properly comfortable in your skin, you approached the cities gates, military boots crunching on the gravely land.
Mando didn't like surprises, you knew this. He liked to be prepared, he liked to know things, he liked plans and strategies, especially in his line of work.
But this time, you couldn't help yourself.
You never got to surprise the guy, and while neither of you really said it (you and Mando weren't exactly raised to show sentimental emotions, let alone with words) you missed each other like one of your soldiers missed a limb.
It has been an excruciating four years without him by your side like he had been for those eight years. You felt tears well up at just the thought of seeing him again.
