You were busying yourself with the tools and sparking wires in your hands, enjoying the familiar environment of a ships wielded metal and oil stained pipes, feeling the hum of the mechanized energy and microscopic connections underneath your grimy fingertips as the smell of soldered materials wafted throughout your senses.
It was magical to you, though you knew the science behind it all, it never ceased to amaze you how thousands of wires could come together and create a functioning droid or comm system with the press of a button or flip of a switch.
It was peaceful, even with the constant clamoring noises and puffs of steaming toxins and gas, the rumble of the engine and stress against tangled ropes, it was all what you called home. Because when you weren't sure you had one anymore, or simply felt nostalgic and filled with roaring sorrow, you could always come back here and disappear within the memories, focus occupied with your sweat and the fuel leaks or whatever damned problem travelers came in with. You had Peli to thank for that.
Speak of the devil, You thought briefly after hearing her voice shout your name from the landing docks. You were reluctant to go however, seeing as you were halfway through a project and if you stopped now it might just blow up in your face. The importance of the situation obviously wasn't heeded outside of your chamber when she yelled again, this time much louder. You rolled your eyes and focused carefully on doing everything in your power to stop two certain wires from touching.
"Gimme a minute would ya? I'd prefer to keep my brains intact if it's all the same to you!"
Her consistent grumbling did not go unnoticed by your ears, but the nerves intertwined among the muscles beneath your skin were preoccupied sending other signals to your brain to care. Biting the skin of your cheek thoughtfully, the fingers of your gloves inched the glowing wires of metal together as evenly as you could manage. Finally, just as they connected, you sent a signal to the droid in the cockpit to start it up. It took a second for it to send through, but as soon as it did you felt the ship rumble beneath you, and grinned at the lack of screeching and hissing from a certain mechanism.
Silently congratulating yourself, you secured all the other wires in the box and fused the required pieces together with your handheld torch before securing any other loose parts that may cause trouble later.
Wiping the sweat from your brow with a rag in your back pocket, you swung down from the chamber and landed on the ships resounding floor with a quiet thump, dusting off your gloves on the way down to the hangar. You saw Peli Motto holding a little green gremlin while standing beside a figure covered in a shining silver metal. You wondered what they needed.
"Hey Peli! Just got that Rodians engine fixed up. Turns out it just needed a little-"
"I thought you said you had a mechanic." The unfamiliar voice interrupted, causing a scoff to scratch your throat. Every time.
"Hey, don't go judging a bantha by its fur. They may be young but they're the best mechanic I've ever had. They practically grew up with this stuff." Peli defended, and although you appreciated her words, you were growing more frustrated by the second.
