Greef had insisted you work together. You both refused, but eventually, you had to. And you discovered that you made a good team out on the field. One bounty led to another, now here you were, three years later, living in the Razor Crest.
You weren't sure what you were fighting about this time, it was often something pointless, even though you're the one that started it. But you had convinced yourself that if you hated him enough, it would drown out whatever feelings you had started feeling the first few months of knowing him.
"What do you want from me?" He shouted, arms spread wide at his sides.
"I hate how quiet you are!" It leaves you too much time with your thoughts. "I hate how you're always right!" It makes you feel awful. "I hate how you're always gone!" It leaves these feelings brewing. "I hate how you do everything!" It makes me feel useless. "I hate how you never run!" He could get hurt. "I hate how stubborn you are!" It'll get him killed. "I hate how you're so emotionless!" It makes you feel like you're showing too much. "I hate the way I love you!" It wasn't right.
He could have told you exactly when you realized what you'd said. Your eyes widened and your face paled as you took in a sharp breath. Stumbling back, you turned on your heel and ran to the 'fresher, locking the door behind you and sliding down the wall.
You brought your knees close to your chest and a hand over your mouth to stifle any noise that might escape as tears blurred your vision. You did not just say that. You did not just say that. Youdidnotjustsaythattohisface!
Tears threatened to spill, but you refused, squeezing your eyes shut. Crying was weak. Liking, let alone loving a guy is wrong. Your mind continued to spiral, making your damn resolve crumble with each passing second. This wasn't right. This wasn't right. This wasn't right.
A faint knock was heard at the door beside you.
You shook your head, refusing to acknowledge it. He'd laugh at you. He'd be disappointed. Freaked out. Repulsed. Disgusted. Distur-
Another knock, this time louder and accompanied by a filtered voice.
"Y/n?" You held your breath. "Y/n, please come out." His tone was gentle, concerned.
No, it was just a trick to make you feel safe, just to bring you back down again. He didn't care for you like that, and maybe not at all now. He never would. Maybe he never did.
"Please. Can we just talk?" He sounded almost desperate now. Was he on the verge of laughing? Letting out that bellowing ring you'd only heard once before and fallen in love with? Probably.
"We are talking." You quipped hoarsely.
"Y/n." You knew he was shaking his head.
"Go away Mando." You croaked, bottom lip trembling, but hopefully he couldn't notice through the door. There was silence, and for a moment you wondered if he'd given up.
"Din." He said. You furrowed your brows.
"What?" He took a deep breath.
"My name...it's Din." Your breath caught in your throat. Did he really just....
"Please...you know I've never said that before." And he was right. He'd never told you his name.
And for good reason, A voice sneered in your head. You buried your face in your knees as if to disappear from the world. But it wouldn't be that easy.
"Y/n."
You knew that voice. It was his last chance voice, as you liked to call it. You knew he could and would break that door down if need be.
With a shaky sigh, you used the wall as support as you stood up and placed a reluctant hand on the door handle, unlocking it slowly. He opened it instantly, and you hid behind your h/c bangs, staring fearfully at the floor.
"Look at me." He whispered, deep voice crackling through his modulator. You shook your head.
He extended a tan, gloveless hand to yours, which was still placed on the wall, and gently took it, intertwining your fingers.
This isn't right.
He held out his other hand, and you watched as he brought it up to your cheek, rough calluses cupping your cheek and stroking the skin just under your eye. You couldn't help but let your eyes flutter closed at the contact.
This isn't right.
He slowly moved your face up until you had to look into his blank visor, no emotion of any sort escaping from behind it. You stared at each other, his hand rubbing soothing circles into yours.
"I...I love you too." He said. A broken smile pulled at your lips and you shook your head, reluctantly pulling away from his heavenly touch.
This isn't right.
"No, you don't."
"I do." He insisted.
"You don't!" You shouted suddenly. "You don't and you can't! I-I'm a.....I can't...." Tears pricked your eyes and you crossed your arms over your shirt tightly, chest heaving as you stared at the ground. "You...you can't..."
"I do." He said firmly. "And I can prove it." You looked up to him confused, and when you did your eyes widened.
His hands were on either side of his helmet, slowly lifting up. You saw the beginning of his stubbled square jaw when you closed your eyes quickly.
He couldn't be taking his helmet off, showing his face. It was against his creed. It wasn't right.
"Mand- Din, don't." But it was too late.
"Look at me Cyar'ika." His voice wasn't modulated anymore. No, it was deep and smooth and made you weak at the knees. You couldn't imagine what he looked like. You'd fallen even more for him, if possible. "Please." He begged. Without his helmet, you could hear so much more emotion in his tone than before. Now you knew what he was feeling.
This isn't right.
You looked up.
He was gorgeous. Like an ancient god sent from above.
His beautiful, big brown eyes sparkled with fear and love. His ruffled brown hair framing his face perfectly. His slightly hooked nose led down to his pale lips and stubble. He was stunning. So handsome, adorable, hot. Your small smile grew with each second.
Finally your e/c eyes met his brown ones, and you couldn't look away.
"I love you Y/n." He repeated, a wobbly smile dancing on his lips.
You looked into his eyes, seeing nothing other than love. Hesitantly he took your hands in his once again, and this time you clasped your fingers with his. You leaned up until you were half way to his face, your breath hitching when he did too.
Your eyelids fluttered closed as your lips drew closer, and closer and...
This isn't-
His lips met yours.
Right.
It felt so right. It was like two puzzle pieces fitting together. The last piece. Sparks jolted through your body and your heart swelled tenfold. Your lips moved in sync as you raised a hand up to his hair, the other gripping his shoulder. His large hands rested on your hips and pulled you even closer, clutching the fabric at the bottom of your shirt.
You weren't sure how long you stayed like that, but eventually you pulled away when your lungs screamed for air. You were both gasping softly, not daring to open your eyes in fear that if you did, the other would disappear, and this would all be a cruel, wonderful dream.
He rested his forehead against yours, eyelashes tickling your skin.
"I love you Cyar'ika." He rasped.
"I love you Din."
