harlee's pov:
thursday night:

the car filled with silence, the only noise being the my tires screech against the neighborhood street.

I pulled into my driveway afraid my mom would notice I wasn't home on time.

it was ten thirty and on school nights my curfew is ten, but I was at klai's house explaining the whole bathroom situation with paige.

I was also telling her how I felt about javon recently. how I wanted to distance myself so that I wouldn't get catch feelings.

she told me not to believe everything that she said, because you never truly know with sidney and paige.

the air from the cold night hit my skin making goosebumps flare up.

I quickly sprinted up to my front door pushing against the heavy wooden door, letting it shut slowly. in hopes that I could make it in without my mom realizing.

the adrenaline flowed through my nerves, I bit the inside of my cheek trying to calm myself.

I paused before walking any further into the house to see if it was clear. I couldn't hear anyone talking so maybe my mom went to bed.

the house was silent.

I removed my hand from the door knob and started to tip toe towards the stair case.

"get over here now harlee." my mothers voice rang throughout the house. a pit darted directly into my stomach.

my eyes closed shut as I held my breath. slowly, I dragged my feet over to the kitchen where my moms voice was coming from.

my heart rate began to pick up seeing my mom sitting at the kitchen table with a bouquet of flowers in the center of the table.

my eyes wandered slowly to my mom and back to the flowers. they were white tulips and they weren't in a vase yet, still in the package.

I was taken aback when my mom motioned me to sit down, because she didn't seem mad. she actually seemed like she was trying to hide the grin on her face.

her eyes stared me down as I took a seat at the four person table, on chair across from her.

she cleared her throat deeply, "want to tell me where you were?" she questioned, folding her arms across her chest, and resting her elbows on the table.

"klai's house, we were finishing a project." I told her swallowing the air stuck in my throat.

her eyes shifted to the flowers then back to me, the room was silent. "so, why did you not think to tell me you would be getting home late?"

"I'm sorry mom I just lost track of time." I told her honestly pursing my lips together, nervous for where the conversation would go.

"would you like to tell me how you have been getting to school the past few weeks, because your car has been in the garage." she asked me, resting her chin on the palm of her hand.

why is she asking so many questions?

I licked my lips trying to think of a lie on the spot, "rylee's been picking klai and I up the past few days." I told her shrugging as if it wasn't a big deal.
