haunted - taylor swift
[lyrics really fit for this chapter]harlee's pov:
thursdaywalking down the main hallway of school, I turned on my phone to look at my lock screen.
I pressed the back button on the song that was playing, causing it to restart.
haunted really seemed to hit different the past few weeks.
something's made your eyes go cold...
you're not gone, you can't be gone, no...
there's certain songs that just set the mood for my whole day, and this was one of them. one of those days, and one of those songs.
my phone vibrated, causing my eyes to slightly squint down to my screen.
a text from ethan.
ethan: what are you doing after school today?
the corner of my mouth curved upwards, feeling a warmth fill inside of my body.
one of the many reasons I love ethan, he's never not been there for someone when somethings wrong. whether it's been me, javon, or jaden... he's always there.
me: not anything specific, just really don't want to go home
ethan: let's grab some dinner
me: is el don okay?
ethan: perfect
ethan: just come to my car after school then after we eat I'll drop you off back at your car
me: sounds good
I exhaled a deep breath, feeling a small weight lift from my shoulders. I don't think he realizes how much it truly means to me for him to reach out to me like this.
my thumb clicked the power button, turning off my phone as I slipped it into the pocket of my jacket before continuing to walk towards my first period class.
I turned down the side hallway, having the atmosphere immediately become more quiet from less kids being in the hall.
fadedly in the distance, behind the sound of my music, my ears started to pick up on the sound of laughter that was threaded with masculinity.
seeing who turned the corner and was walking in my direction caused my heart to instantly fall straight to my stomach.
javon was walking with a few of the guys, as usual. and, no surprise, yet another girl. but something took me off guard.
I never ran into him this much when we were together.
all of the guys were talking with the girl. for the first time, it wasn't javon who was laughing with the guys at something that probably wasn't even funny.
jaden was walking with his brother, behind a few of the guys—a stern look on his face.
jaden had a tight grip on javons arm as he tried to make him listen to what he had to say, but javons facial expressions looked beyond annoyed. like he didn't give a single fuck.
