javon's pov:
three months prior
(synced with chapter 25)

music filled the room, being the only noise as I focused on the pieces of paper scattered across the desk in front of me.

I have tons of homework to do before tomorrow because of how hard I've been slacking recently.

usually I do alright in school, just because I know that my mom would've wanted me to go to college and get a job, but recently I just haven't been able to focus on anything without getting sidetracked.

I'm not going to lie to myself and say that harlee isn't always on my mind, because she is.

and I'm also not going to pretend that she isn't the reason I keep getting sidetracked, because she is.

the smallest things remind me of her and then I get off topic and start thinking about those things and how they remind me of her.

it's ridiculous, and it pisses me off because I can never think straight because she has been making me feel shit I've never felt.

it throws me off guard cause I'm not use to it.

I exhaled a large breath as I dropped my pencil onto the desk, leaning backwards in my chair—grabbing my phone out of the pocket of my joggers.

I just want to talk to her, and maybe after I do I will feel refreshed and be able to regain focus on all of this fucking homework.

my fingers typed in my password, then clicked on her contact deciding to text her before calling so I don't interrupt whatever she is doing.

most likely sleeping like any other normal human being.

me: are you up harls?

I waited a few seconds, but right before I clicked out of her and my messages, she responded.

harls: yeah

the corners of my mouth began to curve upwards, feeling my cheek bones become defined from softly smiling.

me: call me

I placed my phone down on top of all of the papers on my desk, letting my bare back lean against the back of the chair.

my eyes stayed glued down on the phone, my lips pursed together as I lightly rocked back and forth.

I looked away from the phone, letting my eyes travel around my room as I waited for a response.

my teeth bit onto the inside of my cheek as minutes passed, my entire body becoming more anxious for a response the longer that she wasn't answering.

me: hello?
me: opened really

harls: sorry klai called

me: hmmm

harls: I'm about to go out and get some food so I'll call you when I get home

I rolled my eyes as I leaned forward in my chair, grabbing my pencil back into my hand. with my other hand, I clicked the power button on my phone, causing the screen to turn off.
