"Wake up, Islas traitor," Kairos said.
I groaned. "Gising na nga ako! And will you stop calling me that?"
After I told him that my life was his, he decided to start calling me the Islas traitor like it's his trophy. I thought he got over it. Apparently not.
"Then get your ass up. If you are to work under me, hindi pwede ang tanghali ang gising."
I willed myself to get up despite my body's protest. Kulang na kulang pa ang tulog ko. Wala manlang bakas ng pagod sa mukha ni Kairos kahit na pareho naman kaming natulog ng alas kwatro ng madaling araw.
"Wala bang wife privilege?" sabi ko.
Kairos tied the laces of his shoes while sitting on what I considered the reading nook in his bedroom. "Even my brothers don't have one."
That's because they love hurting their enemies. Plus, the money. Talagang gaganahan sila sa trabaho nilang yan.
"What should I wear?" tanong ko. "Dress, pajama, shorts, at tshirts ang meron ako. I doubt that fits your dresscode."
"Just wear leggings and a shirt," aniya. "And shoes, of course."
Kumunot ng noo ko. "That's what women wear in your headquarters?"
Umiling siya at tumayo. He gave his tucked in shirt a final fix. "You're going to use the Despiadados gym."
"Gym? It's the same thing I do here in the house." I told him to teach me how everything in the Despiadados works. Going to the gym is definitely far from how organizations such as theirs operate. Hindi ba dapat ay sa shooting range kami pupunta? Or fight trainings. And after that, involve me in their meetings for strategic planning and stuff. Then I can be on field with them.
Kairos snapped his fingers in front of my face. I didn't realize that I was daydreaming. I finally get to be useful and be recognized for my own intelligence and not as an extension of my father's name. Maybe by then, Vashka can stop calling me a spoiled brat who only showers in my father's money.
"Are you listening, Islas traitor?" he asked. And I almost punched him kung hindi lang ako naawa sa sarili ko dahil alam kong ako lang din ang masasaktan pag sinuntok ko siya dahil walang wala ako sa kakayanan niya.
"Ano nga uli yung sinabi mo?" Napakamot ako sa aking batok.
"I have to go to our headquarters. Iniimbestigahan pa ang tungkol sa sindikato," he explained.
They had to investigate longer because he killed his one access to the syndicate's leader. Because of me.
"I can't train you here while I'm in our headquarters. Doon ka na sa aming gym. Besides, kompleto ang equipment doon."
Nagbihis na ako sa walk in closet. I wore exactly what he told me to wear. Leggings and a shirt. Great. I just look like a tita who is going to zumba classes.
He told me that I'm now working under him. I am under the Despiadados!
Do I feel guilty throwing away Islas like that? Shamelessly, I don't. They never considered me a part of them anyway. I'm just one of their candidates for trading when they need alliances. I'm sheltered and left ignorant. Here in Despiadados, despite Vashka's obvious dislike of me and his rude remarks, the people here treat me like how they treat others under their rule. I'm not seen as a porcelain doll who can't be touched by anything harmful.
Plus, Kairos granted me what my father can never grant me. Opportunity. Though it came with a price, I'm still given what I wanted, nonetheless.
Dahil Sabado ngayon ay wala akong cooking lessons kay Winona. Kaya makakapagtraining ako.
