'Sooo I have a date tonight,'

'What? But what about dinner with Will?' asked Sophie,

'I got a better offer?' said Mya wincing,

'I can't believe you're ditching me!' said Sophie, trying to look cross,

'I'm not ditching you, I am just taking the opportunities that Paris is giving me and you should do the same,' Mya winked at her. Sophie gave her one of her looks, knowing full well she had planned this on purpose.

They walked to the metro station together, Mya gave Sophie a kiss on the cheek and headed off further down to the other platform. Sophie checked the subway map before getting on a train.

Several stations later she hopped off Madeleine, climbing the stairs she burst onto the street grateful for the fresh air after the stale subway. Her phone beeped, checking it she saw she had several missed calls from Will and a voicemail,

'Hey Sophie, look I am so so sorry to let you down, I feel like such an asshole but something's come up, I'm not going to make dinner, please give me a call when you get this so I can grovel properly, I'm so sorry!'

Tears pricked at Sophie's eyes, she was about to debate with herself whether to call him and give him the chance or not, when her phone rang again, it was Will, she took a deep breath and answered,

'Hi Will, everything ok?' she said trying not to sound too pissed off,

'Sophie, hey I am so sorry, I feel awful for letting you down, I've had a bit of an emergency,' said Will,

'Oh, nothing too serious I hope?' said Sophie trying to sound light,

'I have just come out the end of the Eurotunnel, I had to jump on the first Eurostar back to London,' he paused, she heard him take a deep breath, My father has had a heart attack,'

'Oh my god, is he going to be ok?' asked Sophie, feeling instantly guilty,

'Not sure yet, mum said he was in a pretty bad way, I'm hoping though, can you ever forgive me about dinner?'

'Oh god of course, forgiven already,' she told him,

'I will make it up to you when I've finished in Paris I promise,' said Will,

'You don't have to Will, it's fine, of course you have to go to your father,' she replied,

'You and Mya should still use the reservation though,' started Will, Sophie interrupted him,

'Will, don't worry, you have far more important things to think about,'

'Thank you, please believe me when I say I was really looking forward to tonight,' said Will, emphasising the 'Really,'

'Me too, but we'll rearrange, I really do hope your dad will be ok, would you,' Sophie hesitated, 'Would you let me know how he gets on?'

'Thank you, Of course, oh god sorry Sophie my mum is ringing me, I promise I'll make it up to you,'

'No need, bye Will take care,' Sophie ran her hand over her face, catching a stray tear that threatened to fall,

'Well now what,' she thought to herself, she knew exactly what Mya would say, go anyway, Sophie crossed the street, checking the map on her phone she walked a few streets down, ensuring she stayed in the glow of the ornate streetlamps and found La Chaterie, she took a deep breath and opened the door. The restaurant was small, gaggles of waiters carried trays and ice buckets, Sophie approached the Maitré d' and tried her best to explain that it was no longer a party of 3 but 1, Monsieur Melksham was sick, and they led her to a small table at the back in a quiet corner,
