2 days later Sophie climbed aboard yet another train and headed back to the house to pack for their trip to Paris.
'I should probably tell my mother before we go away,' Sophie had told Mya before she left.
'Nah, tell her after we get back,' Mya joked and had hugged her tightly before she left,
'Mya, I'm seeing you tomorrow!,' Sophie laughed
'But I shall miss you so!' Mya joked.
3 hours later she put her key in the lock of her front door and took a deep breath, Stuart wasn't in his car was gone. On the worktop in the kitchen she found he had left her a note,
'Sophie, I'm very sorry for what I've done, but I have to deal with the consequences of my actions now. I have decided to move out, I will be at the following address. At some point we need to decide who will take which pieces of furniture and such, as well as sort out the house. Please contact me when you are ready, Stuart'.
Below was an address she didn't recognise but assumed was Vicki's.
'Bastard,' said Sophie before ripping up the note and throwing it in the bin. She put her dirty clothes from Myas into the washing machine, picked up her phone and called,
'Hi mum, it's me, would you mind popping over?'
'Sure, everything ok?' Janet replied
'I'll explain when you get here,'
'Oh dear, see you in a mo,' said Janet. Sophie hung up the phone and filled the kettle. The doorbell rung a short time later, ready with a cup of tea Sophie led Janet into the lounge.
'What's going on Sophie? Shouldn't you be at work?' asked Janet, sipping her tea.
'First you have to promise me one thing,' Sophie asked her, Janet's eyebrows raised,
'Ok?'
'Please promise me you won't say I told you so,' said Sophie, Janet looked confused but a stern look from Sophie made her say,
'Fine I promise, guides honour,' replied Janet holding up 3 fingers of her left hand.
'Stuart and I have split up, he cheated on me with a woman from work and got her pregnant, he's moved out and I think he is staying with her,' she blurted. Janet stared at her open mouthed, her mug tipped at a dangerous angle threatening to ruin not only Janet's skirt but the chintz sofa too, she blinked several times, the tea spilling brought her back round,
'That is a lot of information,' she said wiping the tea from the thin fabric, 'And how are you feeling about all of this?'
'I was very upset to start with, obviously, now I don't really feel anything. After losing the babies I don't think I've got much left,'
'Oh Sophie, well I did always think you deserved better, and I don't think he's supported you very well this last year,'
'That sounds an awful lot like I told you so!' said Sophie nudging her mother,
'Sorry! Can't help myself, he has gone and proved me right after all! I was half expecting you to tell me you were running off with Mya'
'Might have been easier,' Sophie joked, with a weak smile, 'Oh mum, what do I do now?' she asked Janet collapsing back onto the sofa.
'You do what I did sweetheart, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and carry on,'
'How has it come to this, last week I had a husband and a house and a life and now, I have nothing,' her eyes pricked with tears.
