Even if Berenice grabbed the witch's hand with all her might she was unable to hold her and it only resulted in her steps and direction drifting forward along with the momentum pulling her back.

Berenice:Father hold her still!

Kratos manages to hold onto the witch's other arm with one hand as well but the rushing magnetic force pulls her back with great force and a sort of portal opens behind her - to Midgard - where she is somehow bound to stay.
But before being dragged through the hole, the witch says one last thing to Kratos and his children, in a desperate, anxious and hurried voice.

Witch:For Bifrost's spells to be lifted you must enter the light! But take care and don't get trapped into the...

Despite the efforts of both Kratos and his daughter to pull her back, the gate behind her pulls her in like a tornado and she disappears, along with the closing door. Berenice was unable to find her balance and almost got magnetised by the gate of Midgard, until her father restrains her back...

Atreus:No!

The witch didn't even have time to finish her sentence. When she disappears, a despairing Berenice lets out a few screams and kicks away rocks off the ground in a rage.

Berenice:Damn it!
Atreus:She didn't die... did she?

Atreus looks at his sister full of worry and anxiety and Berenice responds to the boy with reassurance when he thinks things through with logic.
Of course not, and the witch didn't die. She is simply bound to the Realm of Midgard and is not allowed to go to Alfheim.

Berenice:No, baby boy, she wasn't hurt. She's just trapped in Midgard.
Kratos:Come on.

As the witch did not appear to be harmed by this incident there is no reason to worry about her. Inside Berenice is trying to understand and make it the main emotion in her logic as they have come here on a mission and since the witch is fine they shouldn't be distracted by anything else.

She looks around her and sees on the far horizon the bisected light of Alfheim, and throughout the rest of the realm the wonderful trees with the flowers growing even on the trees and the grounds. Even Atreus admires the beauties and together with Berenice they glance at the whole kingdom with a look of pure joy and pure admiration.

Atreus:Berrie, look at this place!
Berenice:Indeed! This would be every woman's dream!
Kratos:Stay by my side. Do not touch anything.

They all move forward and walk forward along the bridge of nine, this kingdom's temple at least, and on their way they find a passage covered by a slimy, living strange plant with a trail of reddish light in its center, and which moves like a heart's beating.

Atreus:Okay... what's that?

Berenice processes it for a few seconds with her father and as she observes the red light in it she recalls everything from the books she used to read and realizes that it was the magic of the black elves, as opposed to the blue light of the light elves.
They indeed need the magic of the light elves to make their way and that is only possible with the torch the witch gave her.

Berenice:Light of the black elves. They're blocking our way. I think I'll make it disappear with the flute!
Kratos:Then play.
