Chapter XIV

TW! Mentioning of torture, blood and death!

Running behind Alec, the high pitched sound of the alarm rings annoyingly in your ears. 

This is definitely not a good sign. 

Alec comes to a sudden stop and you stopped yourself just in time before you would bump into his back.

"Jace's calling." 

You watch him pick up the phone and notice his face changes from serious to furious. "Yes, got it."

He hung up with an angry groan. "Someone attacked a Shadowhunter in the main room. Apparently he or she is looking for the Mortal cup. There's a traitor in the institute."

"What?"

"Yes." He sighs pinching his nose bridge. "Jace's with the others in the main room. We should help them there."

The alarm comes to a sudden stop but your happiness ends quickly when all the lights go off. 

"Sh*t." You curse out loud.

The only thing you see is Alec lighting up his night vision rune. After that he holds your hand and gives you his phone. "Use this as a light. I don't want you to get attacked."

Your heart warms because of his caring towards you. He knows your phone is still in your room. Very dumb move to forget it at this moment though. "Thank you Alec."

Once again something happens. A loud bang is heard from the main room.

An idea pops up in your head. "Go help Jace. I'll go to the location of the Mortal cup to protect it."

He seems hesitant about that. 

"Don't worry Alec. The worse that can happen is me blowing up the institute. And I can assure you that will not happen." You give him a comforting smile.

By your surprise he grabs the back of your neck and slams his lips onto yours.

Before you could completely give in into the kiss, he pulls away. "Be safe or I will not be happy."

Still kind of in a trance because of the sudden kiss, you nod your head. This man can make your knees go weak with one look of his eyes let alone a deep kiss.

With one small kiss on your forehead, he turns around and runs towards the main room.

You, on the other hand, turn the other way towards the office where the Mortal cup is located..

In the office

Softly the door opens. You can't be luckier when a loud squeak is heard.

"Oh f*ck off." You curse silently at the door.

The office seems awfully quiet, something feels wrong for sure. You close the door and try the lights and to your surprise it works. Someone must have fixed the power again.

You put Alec's phone on the desk. Before you could walk towards the location in the room where the Mortal cup is hidden, the door slams open.

Immediately, you stand in a fighting position with a red glow around your hands. 

Hodge is standing in the doorway while being out of breath. "Amelia.."

"Hodge? What are you doing here?" Lowering your hands, you raise an eyebrow in suspense.
