Chapter XX

"Jace? Are you okay??"

You lock eyes with the blond boy in front of you. You haven't seen him since you both got here, and that was weeks ago.

Seeing his worried eyes at your tight hands in the air, you chuckle dryly. "I promise it looks more painful than it is."

"I doubt that.."

Well, true

"I'm so happy to see you Jace. We have to get out-"

"You have to start talking Amelia."

Your eyes widen in shock.

What?

"If you don't start talking soon. He'll hurt you... worse than this." He points at your tight hands. "You need to collaborate, Amelia. He won't stop until you give yourself over."

You are simply dumbfounded. "Excuse me?"

"I mean it Amelia."

You don't understand. Why is he being like this?

"Why are you saying this? We have to escape!"

He shakes his head. "That's not an option. Don't you see? It's better for the both of us if you collaborate."

Anger rises in the pit of your stomach. What is wrong with him?

"Do you have any idea what he will do with me if I collaborate?" You say the last word with so much venom it both shocks you and Jace.

Jace raises his hands in defense. "Don't worry, I'm sure he won't hurt you anymore."

"Hurt me?" You laugh bitterly. "Of course he won't hurt me if I do what he says."

Jace looks at you confused. "Then I don't-"

You pull harshly at the chains around your hands in the air, a loud metalic noise fills the air.

"You have no idea what I do when he is in control of me! I torture, hurt and kill downwordlers and traitors! Do you want to know how?"

He stays quiet so you continue with the same anger as before.

"I would find the most painful and slowest way to let you die! And trust me I can!"

Jace doesn't say a word. He even looks... calm? That angers you even more.

"You really don't understand do you? You want me to show you! Let me out and I'll make sure you beg me for death!"

Everything goes quiet when you finish talking. You breath heavily while glaring straight at Jace.

Then he nods his head at someone besides you. You didn't notice him at all the entire time.

A syringe with black liquid gets pushed through the cell you're in, straight into your neck before you could react.

You groan when the liquid fills your body.

After 5 long seconds you look back up, confused at his actions.

But Jace isn't there anymore. On the same spot stands Valentine.

Your whole body freezes instantly.

"It looks like the experiment is starting to work. I knew you had it in you." He smirks devilishly.

He walks away, leaving you confused and shaking.

What's going on?

Looking around, you notice all the downwordlers in the cages around you. You wish you didn't the moment you meet their faces.
