Episode 5.2- Reflection

I walk into the back room and sat on the crate. "Mom" Min-suk cried out. I pulled him close and comforted him to the best of my ability. After a few minutes he went silent and his breathing evened out. He had fallen asleep. I lay him down and stood up as Hyun-su walked in. I go to exit but he grabbed my arm. 

"I'm sorry about your mother." I said nothing and grabbed his left wrist and put his bracelet on him and left. I put mine on as I grabbed my weapons. I then quickly found Eun-hyuk. "Fine. I'll help on one condition" I say. He nods, telling me to continue. "I lead the attacks on any monster that we find" He nods and goes to find Hyun-su. 

*Present*

After a few minutes he came back with Hyun-su and motioned for me to follow. We walk to the staircase doors to see the gangster guy shaking the doors, trying to get them open. He then pulled harshly on the door handles and the door opened, pushing away the barricade that now laid on the floor in pieces. He walks over the locker and into the stair area.

I then follow behind him. Once I got to the turn part of the stairs I see than Eun-hyuk had stopped Hyun-su. He then whispers in Hyun-sus' ear and once he took his hand off his shoulder I saw his shaken up look. "Hyun-su. Lets just get this done and over with" I say. 

He then climbed over the locker and we continued up the stairs and made small talk on the way. 

*Hyun-su POV*

I was thinking back to what Eun-hyuk had told me not that long ago. "Rescuing Han Du-sik is the main goal. The kids are secondary. Focus on the goal. If things go south, leave the kids behind, and don't tell Y/n this" After a few minutes we caught up to the gangster and the ringing sound was heard. We carefully enter the room and a few minutes later we were fighting it.

I was thrown through the doors and I gripped onto the railing in pain, I could feel Y/n occasional glances at me, making sure I wasn't in bad condition. I slowly stood up, using the railing to balance myself. I then feel another hand help me up and I look over to see Y/n. After a bit we made the monster flee and we continued up the staircase. 

*Y/n POV*

We made it up to another set of doors as we made our way up. I walked by Hyun-su as he had stopped and he said. "I think there's a monster inside." He says referring to the ringing that was being heard in our headphones. I turn around and looked at his as if he was crazy. "Let's go and kill it. We can destroy it right now" He says.

I then noticed that his eyes had turned black. He then opens one of the doors and starts to go in but stops. He then looks back at us. "You're scared, aren't you?" He asks looking at us. Hyun-su then starts to go further in when the gangster went around me and pulled Hyun-su back out and his backpack hit the railing. He then punches Hyun-su in the gut and he bends over in pain. "What did you do?!" I shout. "Relax, just getting him back to his senses." He says.

Hyun-su stands back up his eyes still black. He sees something behind the gangster and he looks at him as his eyes go back to normal. He turns around and a fleshy hand grabs his head and pulls him down and drags him away.

Hyun-su runs in after him and I followed behind him. When we got to the intersection Light said. "Speedster to your right!" A second later something sped by us. Knocking us to the floor. It stopped and I got a decent look at it, I hated it. It reminded me of a satyr, just without the horns. It stood up and turned around and ran our direction. It then caught fire and left. 

I look up and see a woman standing in the hallway with a mask on, holding a crossbow. We then hear the woman speaking to an old man. Hyun-su walks from behind a pillar and I stand up and lean onto the wall, holding my side as it cut me as it ran by. She then pointed her crossbow at Hyun-su and I stepped in front of him.

Holding my arms out. She lowered the crossbow and I feel a tap on my side. I look at Hyun-su to see him looking at something next to me. I look down and see a body. I step away in shock and looked around for the gangster, Sang-wook. I then saw him against the wall outside and I felt a wave of stupidity rush over me. The woman kneels next to him and checks to see if there is a pulse. "He's alive" I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. 

I lean against the opposite wall and tried to even out my breathing, which was hard, if you have a most likely deep gash in your side and your holding in your guts. I then think back to how my old life was, yes it was hard but it seemed like paradise compared to this. Fighting the urge to give in every second of every day,awake or asleep, no matter the emotion, your inner self with try everything it can to make you break.

I wanted to go back to how everything was before all of this, and I remembered, even if I had moved or not, if I chose to go to med school, if I took a different path, I would have to still fight this way of life. As the world has started to end, so has humanity and another life form will roam. The new life form being

The monster version of ourselves.                 And with no cure
