"Where is Morgan?" asks Tommy. We sit together in the cafeteria the following Monday afternoon and have lunch. Of course I know what's going on with her. But before I can start an answer, my brother says: "She's coming today Not. Pepper has been kidnapped and hasn't surfaced yet. While she's gone, she's staying with us."
"Mom didn't want to send her to school like that. That's why she's not here.". I add. Which is also true. After all, Pepper was really kidnapped while camping. We assume some blackmailers or greedy people. But we have no evidence. Unfortunately.
The knocking makes me jump. I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice anything anymore.
"Can I come in?" Dad asks. I sit down on the bed and nod. Dad also drops onto the soft blanket. I study him from the side. The war scarred him. Wrinkles have formed around his eyes over time. And he seems to have aged relatively quickly. But I won't say anything about it. I know how difficult it has been for him all this time. He hid from us for a while until he brought the Avengers to us. He just wanted to protect us.
"What's up?" I ask into the silence.
"I learned something that is very... new."
"And what?"
"What would you say if I told you we're not the only ones?"
"What do you think?"
"Well there's another group. They're fighting too, but not like us. They're more focused on the physical stuff too."
"You mean?" I ask confused.
"It's a school. Only students like Bruce go there. It's in New York and it's run by a fairly well-known mutant."
"Mutant? How do you know that?"
"Nick told me...we'll talk more tomorrow, okay? Try to get some sleep. See you tomorrow."
