Now there is no other way out

Jean:

As soon as the children are back, I grab the scrap of fabric and disappear into the laboratory. There I subject the piece of fabric to the various tests. And I was hoping to find a clue to the owner's DNA.
"You're joking!" says Charles, horrified. He stares at the analysis report in horror.
"Unfortunately, it's true," says Morgan.
"How is that supposed to have worked?" Max asks.
"Bruce was working on a contract for the Army, but he was exposed to gamma rays and he's transformed into the Hulk ever since," explains Steve.
"But only if you're under a lot of stress!" adds Clint.
"Apparently we have to fight after all!" Raven says resignedly and I can understand her all too well.
"You can't be serious," Kurt cuts in. I understand him too.
"Unfortunately, we have no other solution," says the professor.
"Assuming we're actually going to fight Nick, how are we going to beat him?" asks Lilly. I can feel her insecurity.
"By fighting side by side," says Kitty.
"Very funny and how do you want to do that? The professor can't help us much. And one of them will probably stay here with him at the boarding school. They will take care of the children. And even if the professor stays here alone, we're still too few .", Bobby speaks up.
"That's not entirely true," says Lila. And Liz nods in agreement.
"Oh yeah?" I ask.
"We're still here too," says my son. Wanda shakes her head vigorously.
"Please mom. You could use our help. Besides, we can take care of ourselves," says Billy. Mary stands up and stands in front of us. So everyone can see them. And what now I would not have dreamed of.
"Billy is right. You trained us for years to one day follow in your footsteps. You knew that at some point the moment would come when we too would have to fight. Maybe this moment will come sooner than we thought. But that doesn't mean it's a long way off , that we are not ready. It is true that we have a long way to go. What I am trying to say is that we are ready to fight with you. And it couldn't be more fitting. Charles with his teleportation can change places in a split second, Liz can manipulate time and give us an advantage, or I could enslave the spirits of our enemies. The X-Men were formed for a reason. Professor, back then, you along with Raven, Hank, Erik, and a few others fought against a group Mutants fought to prevent World War III. You didn't hesitate either. And you founded this boarding school for a reason de. You didn't do it to impress or anything. After that fight, you knew there were more mutants out there that needed help. That's why you did it. If not, then why did you help my father? What I'm trying to explain is that everyone here is meant to be here for one. Aunt Lilly, when you were manipulated by Apocalypse and fought the X Men, you didn't give up either. If it weren't for the X Men, you'd probably still be wandering the deserts of Egypt today. Uncle Logan you were asked for help by the professor back when the very first team was assembled. But you turned it down and then years later you were rescued by Aunt Lilly and Dad. The professor accepted you without hesitation. You're not here because of your mutation, are you? You've already experienced a lot and you know what it means to be a mutant. Or you, Marie. You almost killed someone with your mutation. But you didn't stick your head in the sand and give up. No! You fought and learned to deal with your mutation. Each of you has fought against the government and the Brotherhood of Mutants several times. Thanks to you we were able to grow up in peace at all. Because you guaranteed our future. You wanted us to have a normal life. But this is our normal life. You fought for our tomorrow, let's fight for everyone's tomorrow. We're not ready, that's true. But we will never be. Not today, tomorrow or in ten years. And to be honest, I'm glad I'm not normal. Charles, you think you don't belong here. But you are wrong. This is exactly where we are right. And I wouldn't go into battle with any team other than all of you. It's an honor to be an X Men. I'm not going to change my mind anytime soon." There was silence for the first time. None of us expected such a reaction.
"You set the bar pretty high, sis," says Max after a while. He gets up and comes to her. Then he puts a hand on her shoulder.
"But I agree and will stand by you. As you said, this is our life. Let's do it for Jan."
"I'm in too," Charles says. I exchange looks with my cousins.
"So it's now said that the Avengers are working with the X Men?" Cooper asks after Billy and Tommy have also agreed.
"Looks like we might actually change something," says Steve.
"Assuming you agree to a temporary alliance, Charles." He now addresses the professor directly. He exchanges a silent look with Hank. Finally he nods.
"It really is time to adapt to the circumstances," says my former teacher.
"And as Marianne explained, we will fight together."
"And what do we do now?" I ask.
"We'll come up with a plan," my husband announces, grinning.

And so do we. While Charles and Steve advise, the rest of us take care of the rest. Ashley gave our children the uniforms with a grin. But since the professor and Steve need their rest, the rest of us have decided to use the time usefully. Which means we all train. Along with the Avengers. Hank thinks we should train together so we can get along better. I'm in the big ring with everyone else. While Hank and Raven stand in the middle and give directions to the rest of us standing around them.
"No matter what happens, you should be prepared. While most of you have some useful gift, you can't always rely on them. There are times when you need to defend yourself even without your gift," Hank explains.
"That's why we're now practicing hand-to-hand combat without your gifts," Raven adds.
"Cassie, Marry is coming!" Hank orders. The two immediately obey and step into the circle.
"Your task is simple. You attack the other and defend yourself as well as you can. Marry, you don't use your gift and one thing is very important: as soon as someone chokes on breath or bleeds, you stop immediately, understand?"
"All right!" Both say at the same time. Then Raven and Hank step back and leave the field to the two. The two don't take their eyes off each other as they carefully circle each other.
"Get started. Otherwise we'll die of boredom." calls Lukas. But both of them can't be bothered. Eventually Cassie takes the first step and rushes towards Marry. But Marry cleverly avoids her opponent and moves away from her. Again she lets Cassie come towards her, but this time she doesn't duck away. Just grab Cassie's wrist and twist her other arm behind her back. But Cassie expected it and gave Marry a headbutt. Out of the corner of my eye I can see Vanessa wince. But Clara doesn't seem to feel anything. Anyway, she launches the attack in turn and punches Cassie in the jaw. Her head snaps back, but she picks herself up and stares at Marry in horror. After that, anger sparkles in her eyes. She throws a punch that Marry skillfully parries. Again and again they attack each other until they finally land on the ground and always fight each other. But then movement comes in Charles and Cooper. They pull the two girls apart and keep them at a distance by standing between them.
"Stop! Stop it. Just fight and not at each other's throats," says Charles.
"We need you alive!" adds Cooper.

Scott:

When my daughter fought Cassie, I was scared. She seemed to fight more like an animal than a civilized human. I breathe a sigh of relief as Charles and Cooper step in. It's only then that I realize I've been holding my breath. Now we're all sitting around a big table with a lot of documents flying around. They are different records. I frown at these.
"And how are we supposed to work out a plan if we don't even know the location?" Wanda asks doubtfully. But Liz just smiles.
"I know," she says simply.
"And we also received an anonymous message where everything will take place," explains Steve.
"Probably from Fury himself," Scott murmurs.
"We don't know. But the fact is that it won't have a happy ending," says the professor.
"And what do you suggest?" I ask interested.
"We assume that Nick Fury is behind everything and that's why we have to think everything through carefully," says Clint.
"So what does that mean?"
"He knows every Avenger and therefore also our strengths and weaknesses. Although he cannot assess our abilities, he will have observed you X Men too.", says Pepper, hanging his head.
"So we have to surprise him somehow, but how?" Kurt muses aloud. We're all silent while we think.
"If I remember correctly, the last time you saw Nick was at Tony's funeral," Liz murmurs.
"How do you know that?" asks Billy.
"I've seen it."
"It's true, yes!" Morgan answers her question. "How so?"
"Because I have an idea, but it's pretty risky."
"Let's hear it!" says Charles, smiling.
"I'm scared," says Vanessa hours later. We are in our room. After Liz's suggestion, we discussed for a long time until finally we all came up with the perfect plan. Now I can hardly walk because of tiredness.
"I know," I finally say. And my wife looks at me. We don't need words to communicate with each other.
"What if something happens to our Clara?" she asks in a shaky voice. I pull her into my arms and stroke her back comfortingly.
"Our daughter can handle her gift. And if she loses control entirely, it's no problem," I murmur.
"She could kill us all," she voices my dreaded thought.
"I know," I say again. "But we won't let it get to that point. We've already lost one child and we won't let one go," I encourage.
"What do you think he's up to right now?" she asks, but I just shrug.
"We'll see. But we should sleep now. So that we're rested tomorrow," I say.
"Not yet," she says. But before I can ask, she pulls me down for a passionate kiss. And for a moment I can block out everything around me. And I wish I could stop time just to make this moment last.
