"Whew, I think that was the last of those boxes!" Silver exclaimed happily. They had finally finished moving everything outside of the hut, surprisingly ahead of time, but that was probably thanks to Silver's telekinesis. They decided to sit down and eat lunch, but as they talked, the conversation inevitably had turned to Achlys.
"So what do we have so far Tails?"
"Well, I can't really find a lot on this guy, but apparently he was thought to be a myth."
"Well we know he's not, but what else?"
Tails went through his computer, his eyes flickering across the screen like lightning.
"Unfortunately, all of the myths and stuff about him are all different in some way, which affects the accuracy of our information. But...". He looked up at the two hedgehogs sitting opposite to him expectantly. "I think that Eggman knows more about this guy than he's letting on. So he might have a file or something in his base, but he's put up some new data wall to protect him from hackers. Or, to be more accurate, me." He shut his computer and shifted a little. "That means I'd have to hack it manually from one of my USBs. He held up the small device to the sunlight, allowing them to observe it. "You'd have to go back in there and plug it in Sonic," Tails explained, "But I'm not sure it's safe to send you alone in your... current condition." Then, Silver suddenly broke in.
"Who says he's going alone?"
He had a determined grin on his face. "If breaking into the doctor's lab is what is takes, I'll be more than willing to help save the future!" Sonic smiled, reassured, but Tails still seemed a little bit doubtful.
"Alright, if you two are sure... but if you guys don't mind, I'm going to check and see if one more person can come with you guys," he quickly added, "I mean, for extra insurance."
Silver and Sonic traded looks, then nodded their heads in agreement. They finished lunch and began to walk back to Sonic and Tails' house to plan out the raid. Silver seemed a little nervous, but he still had an optimistic aura, and that's what Sonic liked about him.
"I wonder who else is coming with us?"
Two days later, Sonic, Shadow, and Silver were all standing in front of Eggman's base.
All three hedgehogs tried to ignore the mutual awkwardness between them. Shadow probably didn't Sonic again so soon and neither did he. Sliver hasn't seen Shadow in a long time, and if Sonic was being honest Silver probably still felt a little intimidated by Shadow, but he couldn't blame him. "Sooo..." Silver was first to break the silence, pulling up a small map of the base Tails had given them before they left. "We're supposed to go through there," he pointed upwards at a small lookout tower that looked like it was connected to the base. "We hijack that tower and enter from there, then we-"
Shadow was gone, his rocket shoes kicking up small cloud of dust as he sped towards the tower at high speed.
"What the heck."
"Oh. My. God."
"This guy cannot be for real right now."
"That dumbass-"
"Did he just ditch us?"
"Pffffft ahaha- wait what."
Sonic and Silver had no choice but to follow him, and by the time they caught up with him he had taken out all the robots, cameras, and surrounding sentries. Sonic sighed as Shadow came into view, skidding to a halt next to him.
"Next time would it kill ya to wait for us?"
Shadow stared at him without a word, maintaining eye contact until Sonic eventually broke away. He looked down the dimly lit tunnel leading into the base and muttered something under his breath so the others wouldn't hear.
Then he cast a look at the others, silently urging them to follow behind before racing down the tunnel hallway, his steps echoing lightly behind.
