Jake dropped his bat and began charging toward the pitcher's mound. He took his helmet off and Frankie stood up from her seat, watching in shock along with the rest of the crowd as Jake chucked the helmet directly at Austin's face.
"Shit."
Frankie muttered under her breath, but it was drowned out by the roar of everyone watching the scene in front of them play out.
Jake lunged at Austin, tackling him down to the ground, and as the boys wrestled and rolled off the pitcher's mound, a few of Austin teammate's gathered around.
The Knights, who were watching from the dugout, were kept in place by the assistant coaches, telling them all to stay back.
Jake got on top of Austin and was able to get two shots in before he felt his arms being yanked back behind him.
While Jake was being held back by the Devil's catcher-- who just so happened to be Austin's best friend-- Austin took the opportunity to deliver another cheap shot, right to Jake's chin.
The catcher dropped Jake to the ground before he and Austin proceeded to kick him.
The crowd jeered and hissed at Austin and his teammate as Coach Daniels ran onto the field. Seconds later, a few other coaches from both teams joined to break up the scuffle.
Frankie hadn't realized it but sure enough, she was standing at the fence, gripping the chainlink as she yelled in rage.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!"

By now the parking lot was basically a ghost town, and after a hard-fought win, the Knights boarded their bus and headed back home with another win under their belts, despite the controversial end.
Austin and the Devil's catcher-- his best friend-- Sammy Pittman, had been thrown out instantly, while Jake was medically evaluated. The game ended, quieter than usual given the situation, and there was no real celebration that night for anyone.
Alex let out a loud huff, smiling as she shook her head. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw figures entering the empty parking lot. Mr. Castellanos had an annoyed look on his face, and as Jake followed a few paces behind, he kept his head down.
"And... we were gonna make sure you were okay. No matter what."
Frankie followed Alex's line of sight before looking back at her and Jasmine, noticing the looks of concern on their faces.
"I'm good, guys. I promise."
Noticing the fast pace Spencer's dad was making to his car, Frankie's legs slowly began moving beneath her.
